The City Council joins the official day of mourning decreed by the Generalitat and conveys its condolences to the families and friends of the 229 people who lost their lives
The Benidorm City Council yesterday observed a minute’s silence at midday in remembrance of the 229 people who lost their lives in the devastating floods that struck the province of Valencia one year ago.
The silent tribute took place in the Plaza de SS. MM. los Reyes de España and was led by the First Deputy Mayor, Ana Pellicer, accompanied by members of the City Council and many residents who came together to show their respect and solidarity with the victims and all those affected by the tragedy.
Through this public act, Benidorm joined the call issued by the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP) to honour the victims.
In addition, the Benidorm City Council observed the official day of mourning decreed by the Valencian Government, with flags flying at half-mast on all municipal buildings and public spaces across the city.
In an official statement, Mayor Toni Pérez recalled that “on 29 October 2024, the Valencian Community suffered its most severe natural disaster — a flash flood that claimed 229 lives.” He added that “the unprecedented intensity and scope of the storm caused extensive damage to homes, infrastructure, and essential services, leaving thousands of families facing severe losses.”
Mayor Pérez concluded by reaffirming the City Council’s condolences and support for all those affected:
“On behalf of the people of Benidorm, we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the families and loved ones of the victims, and to everyone who continues to rebuild their lives after this tragedy.”
