Benidorm / 7 June 2026
A British tourist has been arrested in Benidorm following an alleged violent incident on one of the resort's beaches that reportedly involved an adult woman and a young child.
The 44-year-old man was detained by Benidorm Local Police after witnesses intervened during the incident, which took place on 2 June. According to reports from Spanish media, including Levante-EMV, the suspect has since appeared before a court while investigations continue.
Woman Allegedly Attacked in the Sea
According to information published by local sources, the first victim was a 34-year-old Norwegian woman who was spending time on the beach with her partner.
The man allegedly approached the woman without warning and attempted to force her head underwater. Witnesses reported that the woman managed to break free and escape with the assistance of nearby beachgoers.
Emergency services were not required to carry out a rescue, but the incident caused alarm among those nearby.
Child Allegedly Targeted Moments Later
Shortly after the first incident, the suspect allegedly approached a five-year-old boy near the shoreline.
Witnesses claim the child was grabbed and forced towards the sand before several members of the public and a lifeguard intervened. Their rapid response reportedly prevented the situation from escalating further.
The child was reunited with family members and did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
Swift Police Response
Benidorm Local Police were called to the scene following multiple emergency reports. Officers arrived to find the suspect being restrained by members of the public before taking him into custody.
Authorities stated that the man allegedly displayed aggressive behaviour during the arrest and while being processed at police facilities.
Medical Assessment Ordered
Reports indicate the detainee was later transferred under police guard to Villajoyosa Hospital for medical evaluation.
Investigators are expected to examine whether any medical condition, mental health crisis, or substance-related issue may have contributed to the alleged behaviour.
Safety on Benidorm Beaches
The incident comes as Benidorm enters the busy summer season, when thousands of international tourists arrive in the resort each week. Local authorities have recently announced increased police patrols and enhanced beach safety measures across the municipality.
Officials have praised the actions of lifeguards and members of the public whose intervention helped bring the situation under control until emergency services arrived.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no formal verdict has been reached. Under Spanish law, the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court.

The Costa Blanca enters another exciting week of the summer season, with beaches packed, festivals in full swing and a busy calendar of sporting, cultural and family events across Benidorm, Altea, Villajoyosa, Finestrat, La Nucía and L'Alfàs del Pi.
