Alicante.
The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has indicated the need to "continue demanding for the province of Alicante what it needs and deserves by justice", especially given the role it must assume "in the immense and complex challenge of the economic and social reconstruction of the areas affected by the floods".
The head of the Council recalled that the Generalitat “is making the greatest economic and resource deployment in its history” to face the recovery and in this sense he highlighted the “push and dynamism” of Alicante as a “traction engine”.
Mazón thanked the numerous solidarity initiatives carried out by the province and highlighted the "sensitivity and high standards" of the business sector and Alicante society in "standing by" the victims of the province of Valencia.
During his speech, Carlos Mazón reiterated the Council's commitment to the province of Alicante with "essential projects that are already underway or in operation". Thus, he highlighted the future Alicante Central Station, an infrastructure with a budget of 102 million euros and whose works are already being executed, and the Elche E-Tram project, whose agreement is ready to be signed "so that the people of Elche will have the tram they deserve".
Likewise, he pointed out that "works are already being carried out for the new conduit of the left bank of the Júquer-Vinalopó post-transfer with actions worth 120 million euros to provide service to 14,000 farmers."
In addition, he announced that "this 2025 will see the start of the comprehensive reform works of the Algarós d'Elx treatment plant, the largest investment that EPSAR has made in its entire history with 82.5 million euros."
He also indicated that, after an investment of more than 40 million euros, "the entire Benidorm-Dénia TRAM line is now operational, the trains of which can now travel the entire route because they can now pass through the tunnels thanks to the Algar and Mascarat bridges."
The highest representative of the Valencian executive highlighted that "the provincial CICU has been operational since October after being closed by the Botanic" and that "it is from Alicante where the initiative to convert all the hospitals in the Valencian Community into university hospitals was born" guaranteeing equal and excellent practices for all medical students in the three provinces.
Likewise, he has reaffirmed his commitment to the splitting of the CV-95 in Baix Segura and has announced that, following the declaration by the Private Water Court of Orihuela as an asset of cultural interest, "the Generalitat will promote the creation of a center for interpretation and research on irrigation and water" which will be a center for research and reflection on the subject, "not only historical, but current and highlighting the traditional uses and use of water in our land".
Mazón also stated that the Council "will continue to demand that the Government of Spain keep its word and initiate the procedures for the Lady of Elche to return home."
Thus, the president highlighted that Alicante "returns multiplied by 10 every euro of investment it receives" despite being the 52nd province out of 52 in the general budgets of the State. In this sense, he pointed out that "it needs investments in two key aspects such as infrastructure and water, to continue maintaining its leadership and its essential contribution to the national economy".
Along these lines, he highlighted that the Alicante-Elche-Miguel Hernández airport exceeded one million passengers in January 2025 "for the first time in a month traditionally weak for tourism" despite not having a rail connection commensurate with its size and being "the only airport in Spain that registers more than 15 million passengers per year and has a single runway".
For this reason, he criticized the refusal of the Spanish Government and AENA to build the second one "even though this would generate a positive impact of more than 800 million euros on the provincial gross domestic product."
He also lamented that "the central executive does not want to sit down and talk about water in a serious, rigorous way and with scientific and technical endorsements on the table while they apply cut after cut to the Tajo-Segura transfer without any criteria other than ideological ones."

The President of the Generalitat attended the 40th edition of the 'Importantes' Awards organized by the newspaper Información , in which he highlighted his commitment to the province.
During the gala, the National Police, the Gravina Palace Fine Arts Museum, the Royal Alicante Regatta Club, the Montemar Club Atlético, the companies Chocolates Valor and Plásticos Erum as well as the Orihuela Water Trial Court and the Provincial Archive were awarded.
