Hundreds of residents gathered early in the morning in the Plaça de la Generalitat to experience one of the most exciting moments of Easter in Vila Joiosa. At 7:30 in the morning, the images of the Holy Woman Veronica and Jesus of Nazareth starred in the “encounter”, an act that represents Veronica’s gesture of cleaning the face of Jesus during his steps with the cross on the way to his crucifixion. The brotherhood of the Holy Woman Veronica left at 6 am from the church of the Virgen del Carmen, accompanied by the band of the Agrupació Musical Mediterrani and its procession march “A la Verònica de La Vila”, to arrive at the Plaça de la Generalitat, from where the Calvary procession began.

The Ecce Homo, Santa Mujer Verónica, Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno and Cristo de la Fe brotherhoods participate in this morning procession, which goes to the Hermitage of the Virgen de la Salut, where the Stations of the Cross and the sermon of the seven words are celebrated. After this religious service, the brotherhoods return in procession to the church of the Mare de Déu de l'Assumpció.

This evening, at 8 p.m., the solemn procession of the Holy Burial will begin, which starts from the Plaça de la Generalitat and travels through the streets of the city center until returning to the church of the Mare de Déu de l'Assumpció. The brotherhoods Jesús Cautivo, Santa Mujer Verónica, Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno, Cristo de la Fe, Nuestra Señora de la Caridad, Santo Sepulcro and Nuestra Señora de los Dolores participate.
