How do you pick your grand national horse ?

Over a third of adults pick their winner in the Grand National based on the horse’s name.

One in five punters rely on the reputation of the jockey or trainer to make up their minds, while it seems fortune tellers are no longer trusted to provide the winner.

According to a survey of 1,000 adults on how they choose their Grand National hopeful ahead of tomorrow’s race, a massive 29% say they’ve never bet on the race- with 31% admitting to never having a punt.

Just 19% take tips from friends or newspapers into account and 17% of those surveyed say they study the horse’s form before they fill out their betting slip.

This choice was particularly popular among the 18-24 year-olds surveyed (29%).

One in 10 choose either based on their lucky number, sticking a pin in the paper or a random group draw.

The least favoured methods include the colours of the jockey’s silks and the colour of the horse at 4%, while just 1% of punters trust a fortune teller to give them the lucky winner.
