Tom Kidd shows
Behind The Presenter:
1) What led you to a career in radio?
Started out my working life in the UK ambulance service but always had a passion for music so when I left after 2yrs I was lucky enough to meet some great people already in the business who gave me invaluable guidance and a leg up in the career I’ve never looked back .. yet !!
2) What is your routine before starting your show?
Wake up, blurry eyed and always after Dave has finished his show … Just too early for me. Coffee and then a nice walk to the station through the town, see who’s still out from the night before and who’s just getting going.
3) What is the most challenging part of the job?
I love a good challenge to be honest but i do struggle sometimes with the names of the artists. I got a telling off email from the bosses at one station once because I pronounced INXS as I.N.X.S .. was my early days in radio !
4) Who is your favourite music artist and why do you like them?
Dame Shirley Bassey .. and yes its proper to refer to her as Dame !! .. Just such an incredible performer and diva. Still belting out the tunes at over 80years of age. True legend. One artists I would love to have worked with.
5) Do you have a favourite hobby outside of radio?
Disney .. Yes I know .. Just mad about Disney, the movies, music and of course visiting every one of their parks in the world while i’m still alive if I can.
6) What music do you listen to when you’re not working?
Depends on my mood to be honest, sometimes I’m in a pop mood, sometimes I like a bit of swing and then if i’m driving anywhere I like to listen to some dance tracks … and of cause the best of Disney, at least once a day !!
7) What advice would you give people who want to work in radio?
It’s a great job, get involved at every level and understand the business behind the mic as well as in front of it. If your serious about a career in radio then a good start is to volunteer at a local station and just watch everything that happens and learn everything you can.
8) Be honest, best decade for music?
90’s !! .. My era and also the decade that brought us Take That and Spice Girls .. Can’t go wrong
9) What’s your favourite beach on the Costa Blanca.
The one that serves cocktails by my sun lounger all day !!
