Benidorm Local Police, in coordination with the National Police Corps, has finalised a special measures that will be deployed coinciding with the dates on which the Festes Majors Patronals should be held, according to the Councilors for Citizen Security and Festivities, Lorenzo Martínez and Jesús Carrobles, who have explained that “the objective of this unit is to observe compliance with all measures dictated by the authorities against Covid-19, and that they have been extended for another 21 days, as it appears in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat Valenciana (DOGV) last Monday ”.

The person in charge of Citizen Security has detailed that "with this we try, fundamentally, to avoid concentrations of people on public roads and the celebration of private parties in premises." Martínez has pointed out that "the experience recorded in these months in numerous municipalities in Spain recommends us to be alert and take precautions during these dates to guarantee compliance with all preventive measures and avoid unauthorised practices such as 'the bottle', which in the last order of the Generalitat Valenciana appears already expressly collected ”.

Likewise, Martínez has appealed to the "responsibility" of the population, so that during those days the public maintains "the exemplary behavior" demonstrated throughout the pandemic, complying with all health guidelines and thus contributing "to get out of this situation as soon as possible" .

The mayor has indicated that "these special measures began to operate last weekend, in which the Day of the Peñas traditionally took place, which is not going to be celebrated like the rest of the events related to our Festivities, with the the only exception is the masses in honor of the patrons on the 8th and 9th organized by the Parish Council ”.

In this regard, the Councilor for Festivities recalled that the ecclesiastical body requested the City Council to grant the Julio Iglesias auditorium of the Parque de l'Aigüera so that the development of these masses, which usually bring together many people from Benidorma, "be carried out with the maximum guarantees and there are no problems of capacity, access or crowds in the parish of Sant Jaume i Santa Ana "

Carrobles has insisted that, “as we have already said weeks ago, the City Council will not authorise the celebration of events during the days in which the Major Patron Saint Festivities should be celebrated, nor will it authorise the opening of premises or festive venues, nor the celebration of activities on public roads ”.
