Albir Beach Steps Up Summer Safety with Extended Lifeguard Patrols, Smoke-Free Rules and Award-Winning Environmental Standards

Visitors heading to Spain's Costa Blanca this summer can expect enhanced safety, cleaner beaches and improved visitor services after L'Alfàs del Pi Town Hall confirmed its special summer surveillance operation at Albir Beach will remain in place until the end of September.

The extended operation covers one of the Costa Blanca's most popular beaches and includes increased lifeguard cover, additional Local Police patrols, enhanced cleaning services, accessible bathing facilities and a full range of beach amenities designed to support the busy summer season.

With July and August traditionally attracting thousands of British holidaymakers, local officials say the aim is to ensure visitors can enjoy a safe, accessible and environmentally friendly beach experience throughout the peak tourist period.

Enhanced Safety Throughout the Summer

The operation is coordinated between the council's Beaches, Environment, Technical Services and Public Safety departments.

Daily beach safety is being provided by a dedicated team comprising three qualified lifeguards, a healthcare professional and a specialist technician responsible for the accessible bathing service, ensuring visitors with reduced mobility can enjoy safe access to the Mediterranean.

Lifeguards are on duty from 10am until 7pm during July and August, with September cover running from 11am to 6pm.

Police patrols have also been stepped up along both the promenade and beachfront, while municipal cleaning teams are operating increased schedules to keep the popular resort in top condition.

Beach equipment hire, including paddleboards, kayaks, pedal boats, sunbeds and parasols, is also available throughout the summer.

Smoke-Free Beach Continues

Albir Beach remains part of the Valencian Community's Smoke-Free Beaches Network, meaning smoking and vaping are prohibited across the entire bathing area. The initiative aims to improve public health while reducing cigarette litter and protecting the marine environment.

Local councillor Luis Morant said the council remains committed to promoting sustainable tourism policies that protect both visitors and the coastline.

The move reflects a wider trend across Spain, where an increasing number of popular beaches have introduced smoke-free policies to improve air quality and reduce pollution caused by discarded cigarette ends.

Blue Flag Recognition

Albir's Racó Beach once again flies the prestigious Blue Flag for summer 2026, recognising excellence in water quality, safety, accessibility, environmental management and visitor facilities.

Spain continues to lead the world in Blue Flag beaches, with a record 677 beaches receiving the award this year.

L'Alfàs del Pi has also strengthened its environmental reputation by securing eight prestigious environmental awards, including:

Blue Flag Beach status

Spain's Best Blue Trail 2026 for the scenic Albir Lighthouse Trail, one of the Costa Blanca's most popular coastal walks.

The combination of beach safety, environmental protection and accessible tourism continues to make Albir a favourite destination for British visitors seeking a quieter alternative to neighbouring Benidorm.

With summer now in full swing, local authorities say the enhanced operation will remain in force until the end of September, helping ensure residents and tourists alike enjoy a safe and relaxing holiday season on one of the Costa Blanca's best-loved beaches.
