Alicante TRAM strikes to disrupt services across Costa Blanca this April

Passengers travelling across Spain’s Costa Blanca are being warned of disruption after new strike dates were announced affecting the Alicante Metropolitan TRAM.

The walkouts, organised by the SEMAF union, will take place on 16, 21, 23, 28 and 30 April, impacting all lines operated by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana.

Peak-time disruption expected

Strike action is scheduled during key travel periods each day:

07:00 – 10:00
13:00 – 16:00
19:00 – 21:00

During these hours, services may be reduced or suspended depending on minimum service requirements set by authorities.

The Alicante TRAM network is a vital transport link connecting major towns and tourist destinations,

including:

Alicante
Benidorm
Altea
El Campello

The disruption is expected to impact commuters, students and tourists, particularly during busy spring travel periods.

Ongoing dispute over safety and working conditions

Union representatives say the strike action is driven by concerns over railway safety, working conditions and delays in negotiating a new collective agreement.

Among the key demands are:

Improvements to safety systems and protocols
Updated operational procedures
Progress on the 14th collective labour agreement

The union claims proposals supported by Spain’s rail safety authorities have been rejected by management.

Meanwhile, FGV has maintained its position in the dispute, with negotiations ongoing.

Possible further action

Union officials have warned that further strike dates could be announced if no agreement is reached.

Travellers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time when using public transport in the Alicante region throughout April.
