Benidorm / 18 March 2026
Benidorm City Council has approved a new contract to install electric vehicle (EV) charging points in the Levante area, as part of its ongoing commitment to sustainable mobility and reducing emissions.
The project, with an estimated value of €106,618 and a completion timeline of three months, will be funded through Next Generation EU funds under the ‘Benidorm Vision 360’ Tourism Sustainability Plan.
The initiative will see the installation of two high-capacity charging points, each capable of serving up to four vehicles simultaneously. Located on Avenida de Juan Fuster Zaragoza near the Rincón de Loix administrative extension, and Avenida de Filipinas at the junction with Calle Gerona, the new infrastructure will provide both fast and semi-fast charging options.
Councillors Aida García Mayor and Francis Muñoz highlighted the importance of the project, stating it will “promote electric mobility as a key element in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning towards a more sustainable transport model.”
The development forms part of Benidorm’s wider Electric Mobility Plan (MOVELE), approved in 2022, which aims to expand charging infrastructure across the municipality and support both residents and visitors in adopting cleaner transport options.
Officials emphasised the project’s triple impact—environmental, functional and tourism-related. As well as reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency, the expansion of EV infrastructure is expected to enhance Benidorm’s appeal as a forward-thinking, sustainable tourist destination.
The project also includes the installation of supporting electrical infrastructure, including a low-voltage distribution system, as well as all necessary regulatory approvals and grid connections, which have been coordinated with Iberdrola’s distribution network.
The EV charging points form part of the wider ‘Benidorm Vision 360’ plan, which secured over €6.1 million in EU funding and includes 16 actions focused on sustainability, innovation and energy efficiency.
City officials say the latest development represents another key step in positioning Benidorm as a modern, environmentally responsible destination aligned with Europe’s green transition goals.
