Benidorm Hotels Set for Near Sell-Out as August Solar Eclipse Sparks Booking Boom

Hotels across Benidorm and the Valencian Community are heading towards one of their busiest Augusts on record, with the total solar eclipse on 12 August expected to push occupancy levels close to full capacity.

New figures released by the regional hotel association HOSBEC show that hotel occupancy across the Valencian Community reached 90.2% during the second half of July, with Benidorm once again leading the way as one of Spain's most popular summer destinations.

The figures represent a significant improvement on last year's performance and point towards a record-breaking August as strong international demand combines with one of the year's most anticipated astronomical events.

Benidorm Leads the Costa Blanca

Benidorm recorded an impressive 92.1% hotel occupancy during the second half of July, up from 89.5% during the same period in 2025.

Occupancy remained consistently high across all hotel categories:

4-star hotels: 92.3%
3-star hotels: 91.8%
2-star hotels: 91.4%

HOSBEC says bookings already confirmed for the first half of August stand at 88.4%, with that figure expected to rise further as late bookings continue to arrive.

Solar Eclipse to Fill Remaining Rooms

The total solar eclipse on 12 August is expected to provide another major boost to tourism, particularly in areas offering favourable viewing conditions.

According to HOSBEC, hotels in the best viewing locations are forecast to reach "technical full occupancy", with occupancy levels exceeding 93% to 94%.

Across much of the Valencian Community, hotels are also expected to exceed 90% occupancy, making the eclipse one of the biggest tourism drivers of the summer.

Astronomy enthusiasts, photographers and holidaymakers from across Europe have already booked accommodation well in advance to witness the rare celestial event.

Strong Growth Across the Region

The positive trend extends well beyond Benidorm.

Hotel occupancy during the second half of July reached:

South Alicante: 90%
Costa Blanca (excluding Benidorm): 87.7%
Province of Valencia: 91.1%
Valencia City: 89.6%
Province of Castellón: 85.6%

All destinations recorded improvements compared with the same period in 2025.

British Visitors Continue to Drive Tourism

International tourism continues to play a vital role in the Costa Blanca's success.

Although Spanish visitors still account for the largest overall share across the Valencian Community, the United Kingdom remains the leading international market, representing 23.7% of all hotel guests.

In Benidorm, British visitors once again outnumbered Spanish tourists:

United Kingdom – 37.1%
Spain – 35.9%

Other important international markets include Portugal, the Netherlands, France, Belgium and Romania.

Outlook for August

With schools across Europe on their summer holidays and demand remaining exceptionally strong, tourism leaders believe August 2026 could become one of the Costa Blanca's best-performing months in recent years.

HOSBEC expects last-minute bookings to push occupancy figures even higher, reinforcing Benidorm's position as one of Europe's favourite holiday destinations.
