Benidorm / 21 March 2026
Benidorm City Council has launched a new campaign to boost footfall and support local traders at its Municipal Market, as part of a wider strategy to strengthen neighbourhood commerce and modernise traditional retail spaces.
The initiative, “Come to the Market. Get Closer to the Market”, aims to reconnect residents and visitors—particularly younger shoppers—with the benefits of buying fresh, local, and sustainable produce in a traditional market setting.
The campaign’s flagship event will take place on Saturday 28 March, featuring guided tours of the market’s stalls alongside live cooking demonstrations by local chefs using ingredients sourced directly from traders. The event is designed to showcase both the quality of local produce and the culinary potential of market shopping.
Shoppers attending the event will also receive reusable bags, reinforcing both environmental awareness and long-term engagement with the market.

This campaign builds on a broader programme of investment and regeneration at the Municipal Market. Recent improvements include the reallocation of previously unused stalls and plans to reopen a bar-cafeteria service, aimed at increasing visitor dwell time and enhancing the overall experience.
Markets remain a central part of Benidorm’s commercial and tourism offer, providing a unique alternative to high-street retail and attracting both locals and visitors seeking authentic, affordable, and locally sourced products.
Councillor for Commerce Javier Jordá said the initiative is part of a long-term vision to ensure the market continues to grow as a vibrant, modern, and sustainable hub at the heart of the city.
