The Benidorm Local Police will launch the Safe Christmas campaign on Monday, 15 December, reinforcing police presence in the busiest areas of the city, including Christmas Square (Plaza de la Navidad) and the central shopping and pedestrian streets.
The initiative was announced today by the Councillor for Citizen Security, Jesús Carrobles, who confirmed that the campaign will run from 15 December to 4 January, with four additional officers deployed daily to complement regular policing services.
Councillor Carrobles explained that the campaign aims to bring police support and assistance even closer to both residents and visitors during one of the busiest periods of the year, while also helping to deter unlawful behaviour and prevent activities that may disrupt public order and coexistence.
He noted that officers will pay particular attention to enforcing regulations prohibiting the use of electric scooters in pedestrian zones, which see especially high footfall during the Christmas period. He also highlighted that the Safe Christmas initiative aligns with the DGT’s (Directorate General of Traffic) nationwide campaign to prevent driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The enhanced police presence will operate daily between 3:00pm and 10:00pm, coinciding with the peak hours of commercial activity and public movement in the city centre.
Councillor Carrobles added that the campaign concludes on 4 January because on 5 January, the city will implement a dedicated security and traffic operation for the Three Kings Parade, covering many of the same key locations included in the Safe Christmas operation.
He also stressed that many visitors from across the region, the province, and the rest of Spain come to Benidorm during the festive season, often seeking guidance on directions, parking, and local services. “People very much appreciate having the Local Police visible and available on the streets to assist with these matters,” he said.
