Benidorm / 8 May 2026
Spanish National Police have intensified inspections and enforcement operations in Benidorm’s well-known “English Zone” as authorities step up efforts to improve safety ahead of the busy summer tourist season.
The latest joint operation involved officers from the National Police, Benidorm Local Police and the Valencian Government’s attached police unit, carrying out inspections at nightlife venues on Calle Gerona — one of the resort’s busiest entertainment areas popular with British and international visitors.
Key points from the operation:
The inspections follow a major anti-drug trafficking operation earlier this month in which 80 people were arrested in connection with alleged organised criminal activity linked to several bars and leisure venues in the area.
Offences and sanctions recorded:
Authorities say the ongoing campaign is aimed at reducing drug-related crime, anti-social behaviour and violent incidents associated with nightlife areas during the peak tourist season.
Police confirmed that the inspections form part of a wider summer security strategy across Costa Blanca tourist destinations, with further surprise checks and joint operations expected in Benidorm and other leisure hotspots throughout Alicante province over the coming months.
The increased police presence has reportedly been welcomed by many residents and tourists following repeated incidents involving fights, disturbances and drug-related offences in the resort’s nightlife district.
As part of the wider investigation, officers have already seized more than €32,000 in cash, cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana, cutting agents, walkie-talkies allegedly used to monitor police activity, pepper spray and concealed drug storage devices.
Regional impact:
Police confirmed similar joint operations will continue across Benidorm and other Costa Blanca leisure destinations over the coming months, as part of seasonal security reinforcement.
The increased presence has been broadly welcomed by many residents and visitors following concerns over recent disturbances linked to nightlife activity.
Police officials said the operations are intended to ensure that nightlife venues comply with public safety regulations while helping to create a safer environment for tourists, workers and residents during the busy summer period on the Costa Blanca.
