Benidorm / 4 June 2026
Benidorm's Local Police and National Police have begun coordinating a major security operation ahead of this summer's FIFA Club World Cup, with enhanced patrols, increased officer numbers and strengthened surveillance measures planned between 11 June and 19 July.
The operation comes as the city prepares for a significant rise in visitor numbers during one of the busiest periods of the tourism season, with authorities expecting bars, restaurants, fan zones and entertainment venues to attract large crowds throughout the tournament.
The security plan was discussed during a coordination meeting involving representatives from the Local Police, National Police and Benidorm City Council's Department of Citizen Security. The initiative aims to ensure public safety, maintain order and support mobility management as thousands of football fans gather to follow matches across the city.
Increased Tourism Expected
According to tourism forecasts, Alicante-Elche Airport is set to see a notable increase in flight capacity during the tournament period, particularly from the United Kingdom, Benidorm's largest international tourism market. The additional air connectivity is expected to bring more visitors to the Costa Blanca, many of whom are anticipated to follow the competition from the resort.
Councillor for Citizen Security Jesús Carrobles highlighted the importance of advance planning, noting that major sporting events traditionally generate increased activity in public spaces, hospitality venues and tourist areas.
Enhanced Police Presence
The special operation will include:
Potential deployment of National Police Intervention Unit (UIP) officers from Alicante if required
Authorities have confirmed that resources will be adjusted throughout the tournament depending on attendance levels and operational needs.
Summer Preparedness
The operation forms part of Benidorm's wider summer readiness strategy, which includes reinforced beach services, lifeguard teams, cleaning operations and public safety measures across the resort. With visitor numbers already increasing across the Costa Blanca, local officials believe the combination of summer tourism and international football interest could create one of the busiest periods of the year.
Officials stressed that the primary objective is to guarantee a safe environment for residents, tourists and businesses while ensuring the smooth running of one of the world's most-watched sporting events.
Benidorm remains one of Spain's leading tourist destinations and is expected to attract thousands of football supporters throughout the competition, further boosting the local economy during the peak summer season.
