Benidorm / 20 May 2026
Benidorm’s renowned Levante and Poniente beaches will once again proudly fly the prestigious Blue Flag this summer, reaffirming the city’s reputation for environmental excellence, outstanding visitor facilities and high-quality beach management.
The awards were officially collected by Benidorm City Council’s Beaches Councillor, Mónica Gómez, during a ceremony held in Xilxes, Castellón, organised by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC). The event was attended by the Valencian Regional Government’s Minister for the Environment, Infrastructure and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus.
The internationally recognised Blue Flag awards confirm that both Levante and Poniente beaches continue to meet rigorous standards for water quality, environmental management, safety, accessibility and visitor services.
Gómez said the continued recognition demonstrates Benidorm’s long-term commitment to maintaining world-class beaches throughout the year.
Key Highlights
Levante and Poniente beaches have successfully renewed their Blue Flag status for summer 2026.
The awards recognise excellence in:
Benidorm’s beaches remain active and fully maintained throughout all 12 months of the year, a feature the council describes as a major distinction compared with many seasonal destinations.
The city continues to pass demanding annual environmental and quality audits required to retain the international certification.
An official Blue Flag raising ceremony will take place in the coming weeks ahead of the peak summer tourist season.
The distinction adds to the Blue Flag once again awarded to the Benidorm Yacht Club, collected by its president, Jaime Samper.
Speaking after receiving the awards, Gómez said:
“Benidorm’s beaches are active 12 months a year, which clearly demonstrates the importance we place on our coastline both as a tourist attraction and as an environmental asset. Our objective is always to achieve excellence.”
She added that the awards reflect the collective effort made by the council and beach management teams to maintain the highest standards year after year.
Benidorm remains one of Spain’s leading coastal tourism destinations, attracting millions of visitors annually thanks to its extensive beaches, modern infrastructure and commitment to sustainable tourism.
