Benidorm / 12 May 2026
Benidorm City Council has awarded a contract to Sociedad Española de Construcciones Eléctricas SA (SECE) for the installation of two new electric vehicle charging stations in the Levante area as part of the city’s wider sustainable mobility strategy.
The project, valued at €96,576, is financed through European Next GenerationEU funding under Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and forms part of Benidorm’s Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan, specifically Action 12: “Benidorm Vision 360”.
Two new charging hubs in Levante
The new charging infrastructure will be installed at:
Both stations will feature fast and semi-fast charging technology with a total output of 80kW and capacity to charge up to four electric vehicles simultaneously.
The charging points will use CCS Combo 2 connectors and support modern rapid-charging systems increasingly adopted across Europe’s electric vehicle network.
Construction is expected to take approximately three months from the formal start of works.
Part of Benidorm’s wider electric mobility strategy
The initiative forms part of Benidorm’s MOVELE Benidorm, approved by the council in 2022 to accelerate sustainable transport infrastructure throughout the municipality.
According to Mobility Councillor Francis Muñoz, the city aims to expand charging availability for both residents and tourists while supporting emissions reduction and energy efficiency targets.
Officials say the new infrastructure will strengthen Benidorm’s position as a sustainability-focused tourism destination while supporting the growing number of electric vehicle users visiting the Costa Blanca.
European tourism sustainability funding
The project also reflects broader European investment in greener tourism infrastructure across Mediterranean destinations.
Benidorm has increasingly positioned itself as a “smart tourism destination,” combining urban sustainability, digital innovation and low-emission mobility projects alongside its international tourism economy.
Local authorities believe expanding public charging networks is essential as electric vehicle adoption continues to rise across Spain and the wider European travel market.
