Benidorm relaunches environmental workshops with biodiversity activity in Foietes Park

Benidorm is resuming its environmental education programme on May 16 with a hands-on workshop in Foietes Park focused on building nest boxes and insect hotels to support urban biodiversity and ecological balance.

The initiative, led by the city’s Parks and Gardens Department, is part of a wider strategy to improve green spaces and encourage the presence of beneficial wildlife in urban areas.

Hands-on conservation for families

The free workshop, starting at 10:30 a.m., is aimed especially at families and children. Participants will build:

Bird nest boxes for insect-eating species
Insect hotels to support pollinators and natural pest control

Once completed, the structures will be installed permanently across Benidorm’s parks and green spaces.

Organisers say families will also be able to return later to see how their installations are being used by wildlife.

Supporting urban biodiversity

The programme highlights the role of birds and insects in:

Natural pest control
Pollination and ecosystem balance
Strengthening biodiversity in urban environments

Local officials say these small-scale interventions help reduce the need for chemical treatments while improving the resilience of city parks.
