Benidorm / 15 January 2026
Benidorm City Council has begun an intensive cleaning programme across its beaches to ensure they are in prime condition for the first tourist arrivals of the year.
The operation is being carried out by RA Benidorm, the municipal company responsible for managing the city’s beaches, and takes advantage of the current period of lower beach attendance.
All beach furniture, including sunbeds, umbrellas and other equipment, has already been removed from Levante, Poniente and Mal Pas beaches. This allows teams to sift and turn over the sand, a process which helps to naturally disinfect it through exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays, while also levelling the surface and improving overall conditions.
Councillor for Beaches, Mónica Gómez, explained:
“Turning over the sand allows the sun to naturally disinfect it, while also levelling the beaches and leaving them in perfect condition for visitors.”
Sand replenishment work began last Wednesday night in the Tamarindos Promenade area and will continue for approximately one month. During this time, minor repairs and improvements will also be carried out to maintain the high standard of services for which Benidorm’s beaches are known.
Councillor Gómez highlighted that Benidorm is one of the few destinations in Spain to maintain beach services throughout the year.
“Cleaning, lifeguard services and accessible beach facilities operate all year round. We never close for the season,” she said.
She added that this commitment reflects the city’s year-round appeal:
“Even during the off-season months, visitor numbers remain extremely high, which is why maintaining our beaches to the highest standard is essential.”
