l’Alfàs del Pi / 21 December 2025
The British club Companions has donated €2,657 to the Food Bank of l’Alfàs del Pi, managed by the Social Volunteering Association, following funds raised during its Great Solidarity Christmas Raffle. The raffle was organised to mark the club’s 20th anniversary.
The donation ceremony took place at the Rober Palas Hotel in Albir and was attended by the Councillor for International Residents, Martine Mertens, and the Councillor for Cooperation and Volunteering, Isabel Muñoz, alongside Antonio Viso, President of the Social Volunteering Association.
The Social Volunteering Association publicly thanked Companions for its generosity, highlighting the club’s strong social commitment and ongoing support for the most vulnerable residents in the municipality. The association’s president praised the work of Companions, which is chaired by Wendy Campbell, for its continued involvement in charitable initiatives.
Founded 20 years ago, the Companions club currently has more than 350 members and brings together around 200 people every Tuesday at a hotel in l’Albir. The club organises a wide range of activities including pétanque, bowling, table tennis, ballroom dancing classes, cultural outings, dinners and regular charity events, such as the annual Christmas raffle, aimed at supporting people at risk of social exclusion.
The Social Volunteering Association of l’Alfàs del Pi, established in January 2013, carries out its work thanks to the dedication of around 30 volunteers who collect, sort and distribute food and clothing, as well as provide support to elderly and vulnerable residents.
The l’Alfàs del Pi Town Council also expressed its gratitude to the Companions club for this solidarity initiative and highlighted the important social role played by Social Volunteering within the community.
