Elderly Man Dies Following Drowning Incident at Benidorm's Poniente Beach

An 83-year-old man has died after being rescued from the sea at Poniente Beach in Benidorm on Sunday, despite the efforts of emergency services to save his life.

 

According to the Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU), the man was pulled from the water after getting into difficulty while swimming. A SAMU advanced life support ambulance was immediately dispatched to the scene.

 

Paramedics carried out advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and other emergency life-saving procedures in an attempt to revive the man. However, despite their efforts, he could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, and a post-mortem examination will determine the official cause of death.

The tragic incident comes during one of the busiest periods of the summer season, with thousands of residents and tourists visiting Benidorm's beaches each day.

Benidorm's beaches are patrolled daily by professional lifeguards throughout the summer, and authorities remind visitors to seek assistance immediately if they see anyone in difficulty in the water.

 

The death has once again highlighted the importance of remaining vigilant while enjoying the Costa Blanca coastline during the peak holiday season.
