Benidorm / 30 Aril 2026
A leading police union has raised concerns about working conditions at a police station in Benidorm, warning that deficiencies in the building could pose risks to officers’ safety and health.
The complaint comes from JUPOL, which carried out a recent visit to the local station to assess conditions following what it describes as repeated unresolved warnings.
Long-standing issues highlighted
According to the union, the inspection was prompted by “numerous prior communications” sent to authorities outlining concerns about the state of the facilities.
JUPOL claims that, despite these warnings, key issues remain unaddressed, prompting the need for a formal on-site review.
While specific structural or technical faults were not fully detailed publicly, the union described the situation as involving “unacceptable deficiencies” affecting both operational efficiency and officer welfare.
Concerns over safety and health
The most serious concerns raised relate to:
JUPOL says these issues cannot be ignored and is calling for urgent intervention from the relevant authorities responsible for police infrastructure and workplace standards.
Dialogue with local leadership
During the visit, union representatives met with the station’s senior officer, who reportedly expressed a willingness to cooperate and address the concerns raised.
JUPOL welcomed the constructive tone of the meeting but stressed that concrete action is now required, rather than further discussion.
Legal action not ruled out
The union has warned that, if improvements are not made, it is prepared to take further steps.
This could include legal action to ensure that officers are provided with safe and compliant working environments, in line with national regulations governing workplace safety.
Wider context across Spain
Concerns about police facilities are not unique to Benidorm. Police unions across Spain have, in recent years, raised similar issues regarding:
In busy destinations like Benidorm—where policing demand increases significantly during peak tourist seasons—adequate facilities are seen as critical to maintaining public safety.
Ongoing pressure for improvements
JUPOL says it will continue to monitor the situation and push for upgrades, emphasising its commitment to defending the rights and wellbeing of officers.
The union insists that ensuring safe working conditions is not only essential for police staff, but also for the effective delivery of public safety services in one of Spain’s busiest tourist resorts.
