Calpe / 6 April 2026
57‑year‑old man has died following a serious road traffic collision involving a car and a bicycle on the N‑332 national road near Calpe, on Easter Sunday afternoon.
At approximately 16:20 CEST, emergency services were alerted to the collision in the stretch of the N‑332 between Calpe and Altea. According to official sources from the Centro de Información y Coordinación de Urgencias (CICU), the cyclist was travelling northbound when a car reportedly crossed into the oncoming lane and struck him with significant force.
Emergency medical teams, including a Basic Life Support (BLS) unit and an Emergency Medical Assistance Service (SAMU) unit, were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, medics immediately commenced advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in a bid to save the man’s life. Despite concerted efforts over several minutes, the cyclist did not respond to resuscitation and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The N‑332 is a busy coastal route widely used by motorists, local commuters and recreational cyclists. Authorities have confirmed that the Guardia Civil Traffic Division is conducting a full investigation into the circumstances of the collision, including vehicle positioning, speed and visibility at the time of the incident.
This tragic incident has shocked the local community and cycling groups, as this part of the N‑332 remains a popular but potentially hazardous route for both sport cyclists and tourists due to traffic volumes and limited hard shoulder space.
