The lifeguard service began in La Cala on Saturday the 12th and will be operational every day until April 28th.
After several weekends with high hotel occupancy rates, Easter arrives with very positive expectations for Finestrat. Mayor Juanfran Pérez Llorca visited the town's coastal area with Estela Álvarez, Councilor for Beaches, to oversee the development of one of Finestrat's most visited spots, its cove, as well as the area surrounding Font del Molí and the traditional historic centre.
“I believe the best way to welcome all the tourists who have chosen to spend Easter in Finestrat is for everything to be in perfect condition. From the Font del Molí recreational area, where we worked this year with support from the Generalitat (Catalan government) to improve the paths leading to the Puig Campana circular route, we are even now finishing the renovation of the trail to the summit. We have also, of course, worked on La Cala, our crown jewel. There, we have completed the renovation of the children's playground at the end of Avenida Marina Baixa, replacing the flooring and repainting the railings. We have also adapted the children's playground on the sand and installed awnings to provide relief from the high temperatures for the little ones while they play. Other works have included the area adjacent to the playground, where we have replaced the gravel with artificial turf. In addition, we have re-labeled the lifeguard post so that it can be located more quickly from any point on the beach, as the safety of bathers and all visitors is our priority,” stated the mayor. Juanfran Pérez Llorca , on his visit to the beach.
Specifically, the Lifeguard and Rescue service began this past Saturday, April 12th, and will operate until Monday, April 28th, inclusive, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. From that date on, it will remain active every weekend with the same schedule until June 1st, the start of the high season.
The improvements in La Cala have included maintenance work on the footbaths and changing rooms, and the refurbishment of all the wooden benches along the promenade and in Plaça de l'Àmfora, which have been sanded and painted. The USB ports on these same benches have been updated to allow electronic devices to be charged.
WiFinestrat Network Connectivity
It's worth remembering that La Cala has the WiFinestrat network, with free access from the beach and the promenade. "This connectivity is also available in other iconic Finestrat spaces, such as Font del Molí and Plaça de la Unió Europea. There's also a USB connection on the benches along the beach promenade, so any resident or visitor can connect and charge their mobile devices."
Easter Proposals in Finestrat
As for the activities planned for the coming days, there are liturgical events for those who experience Holy Week through devotion; and also recreational and sporting events such as the VolaBola Volleyball Cup on April 18 and 19, with more than 800 athletes from all over Spain, attracting 3,000 visitors to the town; and the Dia de l'Ereta, a festival declared of local tourist interest by the Valencian Government , which will take place on Monday the 21st, to enjoy the Mona de Pascua (Easter cake) from the Font del Molí, at the foot of Puig Campana.
And to round off Holy Week, there's no better way to celebrate than with the Mercat Gastronòmic i Tradicional (Gastronomic and Traditional Market) on the weekend of April 26 and 27 in the historic center. "Ultimately, it's about everyone—locals and tourists—making the most of the wide range of tourist, cultural, and leisure opportunities we offer in Finestrat," he concluded.
Easter Events & Local Atmosphere (Just finished but still ongoing vibe)
Benidorm
The tail end of Semana Santa has wrapped, but the holiday atmosphere continues this week. Expect busy beaches and a bustling Old Town, with hotels around 90% full. Daily live music, tribute acts, UK-style cabaret shows, DJs, and themed party nights are keeping the nightlife lively. The Benidorm Punk Weekender is also taking place, offering multi-day alternative music performances. This week is more about the post-Easter buzz, nightlife, and events in venues rather than big parades.
Day Trips & Experiences (Running This Week)
Available from Benidorm, Albir, and Altea:
Altea
After Easter processions, Altea is quieter this week. Visitors can enjoy street performers and small local gigs, with major festivals scheduled later in the year.
L’Alfàs del Pi / Albir
Local markets, cafés, and expat events continue, along with live music nights in bars and seafront venues.
Finestrat
Finestrat is relatively quiet this week, with the next major event being the April Fair on 25–26 April featuring flamenco, tapas, and music.
La Nucía
Maintains a sports-oriented vibe, hosting local training events and small community activities.
Villajoyosa
Offers seafront markets and a relaxed atmosphere, ideal for food lovers and visits to the chocolate museum.
Big Picture This Week
Easter tourism is still driving crowds. Beaches, bars, and restaurants are busy, and the main events this week include live music, tours, and local nightlife. Major festivals and larger events will return later in April and throughout the summer.
