The entire municipality of Finestrat is in luck. The popular vote has decided that Finestrat will be chosen Town of the Year, in the Sustainable Town 2024 category in which Benisa and Santa Pola were also nominated, organised by the Prensa Ibérica group. At the gala held yesterday at the Information Club, Finestrat was finally the municipality that won the Sustainable Town of the Year award.
Nine finalist towns were eligible to be awarded in a total of three categories, in which Finestrat, Guardamar del Segura and Almoradí have become the winners as “Towns of the Year 2024” in their respective Sustainability, Culture and Tourism categories, thanks to the popular vote of the readers of the newspaper Información of the Grupo Prensa Ibérica.
Finestrat is an example of sustainability for its firm commitment to preserving Puig Campana, its trails and its entire natural environment. For maintaining its essence as a town, for the desire to combine sustained growth with being a sustainable sea and mountain destination, innovative and accessible to all. For being a reference in the field of technology and sustainable management,
being a member of the national network of Smart Tourist Destinations together with large cities such as Seville, Bilbao or Malaga. And without forgetting that more than 50% of its municipal area has some form of environmental protection within the Natura 2000 network with Puig Campana as the protagonist, from the prism of safety and sustainability.
In the words of the mayor of Finestrat Juanfran Pérez Llorca , “ I want to congratulate all the people of Finestrat. To each and every finestratin because they are the ones who have made Finestrat Sustainable Town of the Year. Because sustainability is achieved by everyone and because sustainability is achieved by living and respecting the environment. I believe that when the readers of Grupo Prensa Ibérica decide that our municipality deserves this award, it is because that image of love and sustainability for your town is the day of what all the inhabitants do. I collected this award on behalf of all the inhabitants who do a magnificent job every day. Finestrat is growing a lot, but we are showing that we can grow while respecting and caring for the environment ”
