L'Alfàs del Pi / 3 June 2026
L'Alfàs del Pi is set to become one of the most accessible tourist destinations on the Costa Blanca after securing European funding to introduce an innovative smart guidance system at many of its most visited attractions.
The project, financed entirely through the European Union's NextGenerationEU Recovery and Resilience Programme, will see the installation of cutting-edge Navilens technology across key cultural, heritage and tourism sites throughout the municipality.
The initiative forms part of the town's wider Tourism Sustainability Plan and represents a further step towards creating a fully inclusive visitor experience for residents and tourists of all abilities.
Smart Technology Improving Accessibility
The new system will be installed at several of L'Alfàs del Pi's most iconic locations, including:
Using specially designed Navilens smart codes, visitors will be able to access tourist information instantly through their smartphones without the need to physically scan traditional QR codes.
The technology is particularly beneficial for people with visual impairments, as codes can be detected from several metres away and without requiring precise camera positioning.
Information Available in Six Languages
Tourist information will be available in:
The multilingual platform reflects the international nature of L'Alfàs del Pi, which has one of the highest proportions of foreign residents in Spain and attracts visitors from across Northern Europe throughout the year.
Supporting Inclusive Tourism
Councillor for European Funds Dolores Albero described the project as an example of how European investment can directly improve the quality of life for residents and visitors.
She said the initiative demonstrates the municipality's commitment to equal access, innovation and sustainable tourism development.
Tourism Councillor Luis Miguel Morant added that accessibility has become one of the cornerstones of modern tourism and that destinations capable of welcoming all visitors are increasingly attractive in the international market.
Data to Improve Visitor Experiences
In addition to providing information, the system will allow tourism managers to better understand visitor behaviour.
Anonymous usage data will show:
The information will help the council improve future tourism planning and promotional campaigns.
Part of a Wider €4.48 Million Tourism Transformation
The accessibility project forms part of a broader programme that has seen L'Alfàs del Pi secure more than €4.48 million in European funding through successive Tourism Sustainability Plans.

Local officials believe the investment will strengthen the municipality's position as one of the Costa Blanca's leading sustainable and inclusive tourism destinations.
