L'Alfàs del Pi wins the competition for sustainability, held this summer in the IV edition of the #GreenFlagsMovement initiative, launched by Ecovidrio, and wins one of the two Green Flags up for grabs throughout the Valencian Community .
The flag presentation ceremony will take place on October 26 in Madrid, at the hands of the Deputy Director General of Tourism Development and Sustainability, Ana Muñoz. The Councilor for Tourism, Luis Morant, has stated that he is very satisfied to be able to obtain this new recognition for the policies promoted by the City Council and has thanked the hospitality sector, and citizens in general, for their participation and response.
L'Alfás del Pi has collected up to 230,850 kilos of glass in the months of June, July and August, which represents an increase of 3.9% compared to the same period in 2022. Thanks to the recycling of these glass containers, it has achieved an environmental benefit equivalent to the CO2 processed by 181 trees over 100 years. The other town that won the Green Flag in the Valencian Community was Finestrat.
Remember that in this IV #GreenFlagsMovement competition, more than 140 town councils and 15,000 hospitality establishments from five autonomous communities have participated . A campaign whose objective is to reward the efforts of local hospitality and the activism of coastal municipalities for sustainability during the summer, especially with regard to the correct management of their waste.
The Green Flags Movement contemplates actions to respond to the notable increase in the generation of glass packaging waste in coastal areas caused by summer tourism. In summer, a third of the glass containers put into circulation are consumed and close to 50% of the waste from single-use glass containers put on the market is generated by the hospitality sector, so its implication is key to generating a real transition towards a more circular and decarbonised model.
