The Spanish National Skate Team held a 6-day concentration in La Nucía to prepare for the World Skateboarding Tour 2024 in Dubai, which will take place from February 25 to March 10 in the capital of the Arab Emirates. Among those concentrated, Naia Laso stands out , fifth classified in the last world championship, and Danny León , 9th in the Tokyo Olympic Games and current number 16 in the world park ranking.

This skate park is almost finished and will open its doors in March, but the best national skaters have wanted to try it, since it is a facility very similar to the one in Dubai, where they will compete at the end of the month. Many of them have the possibility of going to the Paris Olympics, but to do so they need to obtain good results. Their training here has created an expectation and there are already riders from all over the world asking when it opens its doors to come and train in La Nucía, which With this new skate park it will become a benchmark in this sport internationally,”commented Bernabé Cano , mayor of La Nucía.

La Nucía was awarded the “European Sports Village 2024” award at the European Parliament in Brussels, at the ACES Europe Gala (Association of European Sports Capitals). In this way, La Nucía becomes the first “European Sports Village” in Spain to receive the award twice, for “its determined commitment to sport.”
Bernabé Cano , mayor of La Nucía, received the “European Sports Village 2024” award from Gian Francesco Lupattelli, member of ACES Europe, a flag accrediting the award. Accompanying the first mayor in collecting this award in Brussels were: Sergio Villalba , Councilor for Sports, and Pepe Cano , Councilor for Citizen Participation. In the same Gala, other locations such as Thessaloniki (Greece), Pristina (Kosovo), Viseu (Portugal), Manchester, Sofia and Genoa were awarded.
In the ACES Europe statement to inform about the designation of La Nucía as “European Sports Village for 2024”, the European organization highlights that “La Nucía is a good example of sport for everything, as an instrument of health, integration, education and "I respect which are the main objectives of ACES Europe." ACES Europe highlights that “La Nucía has developed an exemplary sports policy with programs and activities. And that the new investments and sports development in the city have been surprising in this last decade.”
European Sports Village, for the second time
On November 7, 2012, at the European Parliament in Brussels, La Nucía received the “European Sports Village 2013” award. Now eleven years later ACES EUROPE (Association of European Sports Capitals) has once again awarded the candidacy of La Nucía, with the award of “European Sports Village 2024 ”, after the exhaustive visit of the Evaluation Committee to evaluate the Nucía facilities on last April. Let us remember that after 10 years the regulations contemplate that cities can present themselves again, as other towns such as Glasgow have done.
“Award for everyone”
“This European Village 2024 award for La Nucía is an award from all the athletes in the municipality, from all the clubs, from all the sports schools, from all the coaches and instructors... All of them with their great work Through sport they have made it possible for us to receive this award for the second time. Remember that in addition to the sports facilities, the jury has highly valued the management model, the promotion of healthy habits among the population, education through sport and integration through sport, and in all of this our clubs, schools and athletes have been key,” said Bernabé Cano , mayor of La Nucía.
European third prize
This new award of “European Sports Village 2024” for La Nucía is a seal of “sports quality” and a valuable international promotion at an institutional, sports and tourism level for the municipality. This is the third time that La Nucía has been awarded at the European Parliament in Brussels .
Let us remember that La Nucía received the “European Sports Village 2013” award in 2012 and in December 2017 it collected the “Best European Village” award, after competing with 35 other European villages. To these European awards we must add the “National Sports Award” from the Higher Sports Council of the Government of Spain, which La Nucía received in 2013.
“Investing in sport is investing in health”
In his speech, Hugo Alonso, general secretary of ACES Europe, highlighted that La Nucía “was a visionary in linking sport and healthy habits, because investing in sport is investing in health. One euro invested in sport is €15 saved in health. In addition, this town was also a pioneer in seeing sport as an economic engine of society. Today 3% of the Gross Domestic Product of the European Union is generated through sport and 3.5% of employment is also generated through Sport in Europe. Sports tourism is one of the greatest assets today as a business magnet. Circumstance that La Nucía has known how to exploit splendidly and the ACES Europe tribunal has valued it very positively.”
La Nucía has become a benchmark in healthy living habits, especially in childhood, since 83% of the school population practices sports, when the national average is around 65%.
“New award for our “La Nucía, City of Sports” project
“This new award, third at the European level, is a recognition of our determined and clear commitment to the sport that we started 21 years ago in La Nucía. We are committed to sports as a means of tourism promotion, a way to create healthy habits, a means for social integration and as an economic engine of the municipality. A risky bet from which we are now reaping the fruits, consolidating our brand of “La Nucía, City of Sports”. To achieve this award we have passed an audit and evaluation by ACES Europe. This award will give us incalculable promotion and greater prestige as a European sports reference,” says Bernabé Cano , mayor of La Nucía.

The Generalitat Valenciana will carry out improvements on the Benidorm-La Nucía road (CV-70) as announced this morning by Salomé Pradas, Minister of the Environment, Water, Infrastructure and Territory during her visit to the La Nucía City Council, “to improve road safety between Benidorm and La Nucía, given that it is the fourth busiest road in the Valencian Community .”
He also announced that the “public transportation service” will be improved to improve the interurban regional bus service with an urgent shock plan, which will increase the frequency of buses . One of the historical demands of the La Nucía City Council and the region.
Minister of the Environment, Water, Infrastructure and Territory, made her first visit to La Nucía, where she was received at the City Hall by Bernabé Cano, mayor of La Nucía and councilors from the government team. Nuciero Miguel Ángel Ivorra, General Director of Urban Planning of the Generalitat Valenciana, and Raúl Mérida, General Director of Natural and Animal Environment, also participated in this institutional and work visit .
First of all, Pradas has signed the council's honor book. Subsequently, he met with the mayor of La Nucía to discuss different issues such as the renovation of the CV-70 highway and the improvement of public transport service. After addressing the media, he concluded his tour of the municipality with a visit to the works in the La Serreta Sector and the Ciutat Esportiva Camilo Cano .
“With the visit of Councilor Salomés Pradas we begin a new era of direct communication with the Generalitat and the councilors, who visit La Nucía to learn about their problems and those of the neighbours first-hand. Not like during the 8 years of the Botánic that they did not come. We have been able to convey to the councilor the problems that exist in public transport at the regional level, we need more frequency and buses, which she is going to improve shortly according to what she has told us. At the same time, we have conveyed the importance of improving the asphalt of the Benidorm-La Nucía highway, since the patching work carried out by the former government with concrete does not guarantee the road safety of this road so traveled daily by thousands of nucieros and neighbors of the region” commented Bernabé Cano, mayor of La Nucía.
Improvement in Public Transportation
In her appearance before the media in La Nucía, Minister Salomé Pradas announced that her department has drafted a new emergency “public transport” contract, with a duration of 2 years, to guarantee road mobility in the Marina Baixa since Benidorm. After this procedure – she said – “ the service can begin in the coming weeks and thus guarantee the mobility of more than 200,000 users in the region . ” This new contract will increase the frequency of the bus line between La Nucía and Benidorm, especially “at peak times.”
For Pradas, “ this is a provisional solution to the neglect and abandonment of the Botànic to the Marina Baixa ” and he stressed that the Department “ will begin the study of the long-term mobility and transportation plan for the region to guarantee solid mobility. guaranteed and lasting ”, with new lines such as La Nucía-Altea.
