La Nucía, / 1 June 2026
The 2026 Municipal Rabies Vaccination Campaign has officially launched today in La Nucía, offering residents affordable vaccination, deworming and pet identification services until 15 June.
The initiative, organised by La Nucía Town Council's Department of Animal Protection, aims to promote responsible pet ownership and safeguard public and animal health throughout the municipality.
Under the campaign, owners of dogs, cats and ferrets can access rabies vaccination and deworming treatment for a reduced price of €22. A comprehensive package including microchip implantation, vaccination, deworming and official documentation is also available for €73.
Six Veterinary Clinics Taking Part
The campaign is being delivered in partnership with six veterinary clinics across La Nucía:
Pet owners are encouraged to contact participating clinics directly to arrange appointments.
Legal Requirements for Pet Owners
Municipal officials have reminded residents that rabies vaccination remains compulsory for dogs and is strongly recommended for cats and ferrets as part of wider animal health protection measures.
In addition, under Valencian Community animal welfare legislation, pets must be identified with a microchip and registered in the RIVIA (Valencian Community Companion Animal Register). Failure to comply can result in administrative penalties.
The campaign forms part of La Nucía's ongoing commitment to animal welfare, responsible ownership and disease prevention.
Supporting Animal Welfare
Spain remains free from endemic rabies, but health authorities continue to stress the importance of vaccination programmes, particularly given increasing international travel and the movement of pets across European borders. Annual vaccination campaigns help maintain this status and reduce the risk of disease transmission.
La Nucía Town Council says the campaign reflects its continued commitment to protecting companion animals while making essential veterinary services more accessible and affordable for local families.
