Hundreds of residents participate in the funeral procession organized by the 'Verge del Sofratge' Penyes Association.
The Benidorm Carnival concluded last night with the traditional Burial of the Sardine, which, always on Tuesday, is organized by the Association of Carnival Groups 'Verge del Sofratge' (Verge del Sofratge) in collaboration with the Department of Festivals. This year, the celebration took place a week late due to the delay of the carnival due to adverse weather conditions.
Since before 9:00 p.m., the group of members gathered at the Casa del Fester to head to the Plaza Mayor, where the revelers were expected to attend a solemn and solemn mourning ceremony to bid farewell to the 2025 Carnival.
The Councilor for Festivals, Mariló Cebreros, and several local councilors participated in the unusual parade. Regional Representative José Ramón González de Zárate also attended, showing his support for the city's largest festival group, led by Jonathan López de las Huertas.
This year, artist Carlos Vaya created the sardine that, carried on the shoulders of members of the club, paraded through the city's downtown streets in a resounding and heartfelt funeral procession, which also included the participation of the queens of the 2025 Festes Majors Patronals, Paula Pascual and Aitana Pérez, along with their bridesmaids and the vice president of the Commission, Rafael Doménech Donate.
The members of the community carried their colorful sardine from the Plaza Mayor and passed through Tomás Ortuño, Escuelas, and Ruzafa streets, and, after traveling along Paseo de la Carretera, arrived at Elche Park, where the fire consumed the last vestige of this year's carnival.
