Benidorm City Council has renewed around 70 plaques with the names of streets in the old town to replace the previous ones, many of which were damaged or in poor condition due to the passage of time. The Councillor for Public Space, Francis Muñoz, explained that with these new plaques “we will also reinforce the information on the name of these streets in areas of the street map where it had been detected that the streets were not sufficiently identified”, so “in addition to improving the image of the streets of our old town, we also improve their signage”.
The new tiles have been made by a workshop located in the province of Alicante, and the cost of them has been covered by the company concessionaire of the urban furniture of the city, Impursa, included in the variable investment of this concession, explained Francis Muñoz. In this way, according to the councillor, the action “will not entail any additional expense for the City Council”.
Francis Muñoz has pointed out that the renewal of the signage on these streets is part of “a set of actions that we are carrying out to renew and improve the vertical signage in numerous points of the city” and that “it is completed with others that have already been carried out”. Among them, the placement of 25 panels with the 'Metrominuto / Biciminuto'; the installation of digital screens to inform about traffic, air quality, possible incidents or parking options, within the development of the city's ZBE project; or the new posts and signage of the Directional Signage Plan that is being implemented.
Finally, the Councillor for Public Space has highlighted that with actions of this type “we improve and facilitate road information for both residents and visitors of our iconic old town, the places of interest in our city and those with the greatest tourist influx”.
