The date of March 8, “International Women's Day” is approaching and the Department of Equality has organized a varied program of events titled “Setmana de la Dona Finestrat 2024” that includes the inauguration of the “fanalets” in the sky of the traditional historic center, co-education workshops in schools and the monologue “Per l'humor de 10” by the comedian Carol Tomás, among other events.
In the words of the councilor of the area, Nati Algado, “Dona Week is a week to value everything we have achieved to date in terms of Equality and also to vindicate everything that we still have to overcome, such as wage gap, the need for reconciliation facilities or the glass ceiling. However, it is a week to celebrate what unites us, what makes us stronger as a society and to value the role of women in all areas of society."
On Friday, March 1, from Finestrat they attend the XXIII Trobada de Dones Marina Baixa hosted by La Nucia. Registration is now open in collaboration with the Associació de Dones de Finestrat. The time to sign up will be Monday and Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the headquarters of this association (Carrer Nou, 5). Places are limited.
On Saturday, March 2, there will be a workshop in tribute to the hundred women who lost their lives in the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire in New York. “It is one of the dramas that are remembered every March 8 due to the terrible working conditions of those workers and who finally paid with their lives. In his memory we will do a manual workshop with fabrics on Saturday, March 2, in the Sala Jove.” The workshop will have 2 shifts, from 10:30 to 12:00 and from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. Registration is free and can be formalized by emailing equality@finestrat.org or by calling the City Council: 96 587 81 00.
On Friday the 8th, coinciding with this anniversary, the Associació de Dones de Finestrat, chaired by Teresa Climent, organizes a snack at the doors of its headquarters, on Carrer Nou, nº 5, starting at 5:00 p.m.
On Saturday the 9th will be the premiere of the III edition of “Fanalets al Carrer. Gifts in action. “The sky on Carrer Nou and Carrer Fonteta will once again be filled with color with the crochet lanterns that we have been making for 3 years. They are already an icon with which we decorate our traditional historic center and an emblem of the 8M in which the men and women of Finestrat are involved.” The opening ceremony will be on Saturday the 9th, at 12:30 p.m. from the headquarters of les Dones, “an entity to which we are infinitely grateful for its commitment and dedication both in this event and in all those we invite to participate,” indicated Nati Algado. For this edition, more than 60 lanterns are expected to be installed "on which work is already underway both at the Dones headquarters and at the La Cala Social Center." For all those interested in collaborating, you can go to the headquarters on Tuesdays and Thursdays, at 5:00 p.m., and also to the La Cala Social Center on Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m.
To close this Week of the Dona, the House of Culture hosts Carol Tomás' monologue “Per l'humor de 10” . It will be at 7:00 p.m. and admission is free, limited to the capacity of the assembly hall.
It is also worth noting that throughout the school year, co-education workshops have been held in educational centers, both “Puig Campana” and “Balcó de Finestrat” to promote equality among schoolchildren from an early age. For this month of March, the sessions will be held between the 6th and the 12th.
