Alicante Province / 6 April 2026
The Consorcio Provincial de Bomberos de Alicante has confirmed that its emergency helicopter and mountain rescue specialists carried out three separate rescue operations on Saturday, 5 April 2026, responding to incidents across the province, including two in the Marina Baixa region at Finestrat and Callosa d’en Sarrià.
The operations were coordinated using the Alpha 01 helicopter and the Grupo Especial de Rescate (GER), a specialist mountain rescue unit trained for remote and challenging terrain. According to the fire consortium, the team responded to calls from hikers and walkers requiring urgent medical assistance and aerial evacuation.
Mutxamel & San Vicente del Raspeig
In the Sabinar area, a 65‑year‑old man was found with chest pain radiating to his arm, suspected to be a heart attack. Firefighters airlifted him to a hospital helipad, where he was handed over to ambulance crews for further treatment.
Collado del Pouet, Finestrat
In Finestrat, a 19‑year‑old hiker suffered a sprained ankle, leaving him unable to walk. The rescue crew, accompanied by a paramedic, assessed and splinted the injury before evacuating him by helicopter to the Finestrat helipad. He was then transferred to a Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance for further care.
Sierra de Bernia, Callosa d’en Sarrià
A 59‑year‑old woman fell while walking the circular route in the Sierra de Bernia. She was dizzy and in pain with injuries to her hand and knee, and rescuers confirmed a suspected elbow fracture‑dislocation. After stabilising her arm and administering pain relief, she was airlifted to the Finestrat helipad and transferred to a BLS crew.
All three operations were completed safely thanks to the rapid coordination of aerial and ground emergency services. The fire consortium’s statement emphasises the importance of specialist rescue capabilities in assisting people in remote and challenging mountain environments, particularly during periods of high outdoor activity.
