UK fugitive wanted for drug trafficking arrested in Benidorm

A British man wanted for serious drug offences has been arrested in Benidorm following a joint international effort involving Spanish police and UK authorities.

 

Officers from the Policía Nacional detained the 32-year-old in the city’s well-known “English area”, acting on a European Arrest Warrant issued by the United Kingdom.

 

Links to organised crime network in the UK

According to investigators, the suspect is alleged to have been part of a criminal organisation operating in Blackburn between 2022 and 2024.

 

The network is believed to have been involved in the distribution of:

• Cocaine
• Ketamine
• Cannabis

 

Authorities say the man played a key coordinating role, helping organise supply chains and logistics within the group.

 

Money laundering operations uncovered

In addition to drug trafficking, the suspect is accused of participating in large-scale money laundering.

 

Police allege he used a combination of:

• Personal bank accounts
• Third-party accounts
• Financial transfers

 

To conceal the origin of criminal proceeds generated by the network.

 

Flight from the UK and international search

The man is understood to have fled the UK after one of his associates was arrested, fearing he was under investigation.

 

This triggered the issuing of a European Arrest Warrant, enabling authorities across Europe to locate and detain him.

 

Arrest in Benidorm’s tourist zone

Following intelligence work, officers tracked the suspect to Benidorm, a city that regularly features in international police operations due to its large transient population and popularity with foreign visitors.

 

He was arrested without incident and taken into custody.

 

Facing extradition to the UK

After his arrest, the suspect was brought before Spain’s central judicial authorities, where proceedings are now underway to determine his extradition to the UK.
