The surveillance and rescue team and the Local Police did a rescue drill this morning on the central beach to check the effectiveness of the action protocol in the face of an emergency.
The team of lifeguards from the central beach, together with officers from the Local Police and Civil Protection officers, took part in a drill this morning. The objective is to verify the effectiveness of the health and safety personnel's action protocol in the event of an emergency in order to guarantee the corresponding attention to bathers on each beach.
The session was supervised by the Councillors for Tourism and Beaches, Rosa Llorca and Carlos Soler, who explained that this year the number of lifeguards on Centre beach has increased to 7. 24 lifeguards ensure safety on the 6 blue flag beaches that Vila Joiosa has. This summer, in addition, some of the students from the specific professional training course for water rescue at beaches, swimming pools and natural spaces, which the Youth and Beach councils offered this winter to young villagers, have joined the workforce.
The daily lifeguard and rescue service on the blue flag beaches will be active until September 30, from 10.30am to 7.30pm. In addition, the device has a jet ski that is in charge of monitoring the bathers on these beaches from the sea. The mayor of Platges, Carlos Soler, adds that "the drills help to improve protocols and on the beach and at sea every precaution is little to guarantee the safety and health of bathers".
