The night of the Landings started with a video mapping that was projected onto the wall of the Costanera de la Mar and explained the events that happened on the morning of July 29, 1538 through an immersive audio-visual show.
More than 4,000 revelers took part this morning in the Desembarc, the most emblematic event of the Moors and Christians festivities in Vila Joiosa that was held on the central beach. 25 Saracen boats have starred at sea in the great show of pyrotechnics, lights and sound, which represents the historical events that underpin the patronal festivities, thus recreating the barbaric attack of July 29, 1538, for which it was named Santa Marta, patron saint of the city.
The night started with a video mapping of the Landing projected on Torrejó de la Costera de la Mar. This audio-visual show recounts the historical events that form the basis of the festival and that are represented at the Landing. That is why an artistic effect has been created in an immersive setting through a combination of animation, lights, real and 3D images and sound with which the public has come to know the origin of ours. This performance, which fuses art with history and technology, is financed by Turisme Comunitat Valenciana. The speech will be given by Ximo Baldó, celebrant and author of the cover of the 2024 festival magazine, the Christian King, Maties Romà, and the Moro Ambassador, Juan Vicente Llinares.
At 5:00 a.m., the Christian troops went down to the central beach along the Costa de la Mar after the alarm sounded and under the supervision of the Christian King, Maties Romà, of the Pirates Corsairs company. which contemplated the descent of the army of the cross from the tower of the wall. Two hours earlier, the Moors had gone to the port to embark. A Christian camp has been set up on the beach next to the castle, where the Christians' arquebuses have not stopped exploding. Meanwhile, the Moorish boats sailed in front of the coast, between the fires.
At 6 o'clock in the morning, the Emissary of the Moorish King, Miquel Lloret Pérez, of the Moors of the Riff, arrived on land on an oared lute and a white flag in hand. After the rejection of the Christian King, Matthias Romà, in front of his allegation with which he asks him to surrender before the attack of the Saracen army, the Emissary has re-embarked and, raising the red flag, has indicated that the Moors would throw themselves into the water. When they reached the edge of the beach, they fought, hand to hand, with the Christians who were waiting for them in the camp. After the arrival of all the Moors on the beach, the Moorish Embassy was held, starring the Moorish ambassador, Juan Vicente Llinares, and the Christian ambassador, Manolo Villalón.
The centre beach has become the epicentre of the festivities, since the Smuggler Embassy also took place yesterday evening, in which Claudia Pérez made her debut as a smuggler ambassador. The Allijo of Smugglers and Corsair Pirates could not be done due to the bad state of the sea during the evening.
Subsequently, the presentation parade of the troops to the Moro King began, which ended in front of the castle, where the Bedouin embassy took place. This year, for the first time in the history of the village festivities, the position of Bedouin ambassador has been represented by a woman, Paula Lloret de Torre, who has had a dialogue with the Moorish King, of the Moors of the Riff, Pablo de Torre.
This evening, the events continue on the central beach. The Reconquest and Christian Embassy will be celebrated, with which the Christians will recover the castle and, immediately after, all the revellers will go up to the church of Our Lady of the Assumption to thank Santa Marta for the protection of the village and 21 salvos will be fired in honour of the Patroness.
.
Àpunt will broadcast the Moorish parade on Friday at 5:45 p.m. and the Christian parade at 9:45 p.m. live and on the night of the Landing a video mapping show will be shown on the Costera de la Mar wall that will explain to the public the historical events that they recreate that morning.
La Vila Joiosa is already counting the hours to experience its big week. Around 4,000 revellers will participate in the Moors and Christians patronal festivities in honour of Santa Marta declared of International Tourist Interest. This year the festivities have several new features. For the first time, the Moorish and Christian parades will be broadcast by Àpunt, the Valencian public television. On Friday afternoon, July 26, the Moorish parade will be broadcast from 5:45 p.m., followed by a live broadcast of the Christian parade at 9:45 p.m.
Another novelty will arrive on the night of the Landing. An audio-visual show of video mapping of the Landing will be projected on the Torrejó of the Renaissance wall that runs along the Costanera de la Mar. From 00.00 to 03.00 the public will be immersed in the events that took place on the morning of July 29, 1538 through a combination of animation, lights, real and 3D images and sound. El Torrejó will explain in first person his testimony of the historical events that form the basis of the festival and that are represented in the Landing. An artistic effect will be created in an immersive setting with which the public will interact while learning about the origin of ours.
Other news this year is that the descent of the Christian army to the beach along the Costa de la Mar at 05.00 hours will be preceded by a pyrotechnic earthquake that will signal the town to sound the alarm. Previously, the pyrotechnic show from the sea, will start at 03.00 hours with the constant shot of fires from 5 platforms on the water, in addition from the two breakwaters located at the two ends of the central beach, the effect of which will recreate even more if possible beach war scenario. The Mayor of Festivities and Citizen Security, Jaime Santamaría, explains that "we have worked throughout the year with the Santa Marta Association to improve each event of our festivities and, above all, we have committed to dynamizing the star event and identifier of our festivities, the Landing, which will present novelties in terms of lighting and pyrotechnics. This year, our most emblematic event will be held in the morning from Saturday to Sunday, which is why we expect more public attendance".
More than 200 officers will ensure the safety of the thousands of revelers and visitors. Each event has a security and emergency plan, controlled by an advanced command post where agents from the Local Police, Civil Guard, Provincial Maritime Service, National Police, GEOS, Civil Protection, Violet Points, Firefighters, paramedics and operators intervene of technical services and maintenance of the Town Hall of Vila Joiosa. Santamaría explains that "we have strengthened the security device even more if possible and during the holidays Colón and Constitució streets will remain closed to traffic from 02.00 a.m. until 06.00 a.m., in addition to extending the cleaning service road to guarantee revellers and neighbours clean and safe parties".
Neighbours
In addition, Vila Joiosa Town Council will distribute reusable glasses to revellers in order to reduce plastic spending during the festivities and will offer all events from July 25 to 28 live on the corporate YouTube channel.
The program of events will start on the night of July 24 with the entry of bands, where the more than 500 musicians participating in the festivities will parade. On the 25th and 26th, the Moorish and Christian parades are held respectively, which this year start at 9:00 p.m. The companies Moros del Riff and Pirates Corsairs will close the corresponding parades with a few accompanying the Moorish King, Pau de Torre Soler, and the Christian King, Maties Romà Mayor.
Revellers
On Saturday the 27th, the events will begin at the central beach, in which gunpowder and the sea are the protagonists. In the afternoon, the Allijo de Pirates Corsairs and Contrabandists will take place, and the subsequent Contraband Embassy, where the new castle and the new smuggler ambassador Claudia Pérez will be unveiled. Then, the presentation parade of the crescent troops to the Moro King will be organized, which will conclude in front of the castle, where the Bedouin Embassy will take place. In this embassy, for the first time, a woman representing the position of Bedouin ambassador, Paula Lloret de Torre, will act.
At midnight, the magical night of the Landing will begin, a show of lights, fires, music and arquebuses on the central beach that recreates the events that took place 486 years ago in front of the coast. 25 Saracen boats will arrive on land after the indication of the Emissary of the Moro King, represented this year by the Moor of the Riff, Miguel Lloret Pérez. And after the Landing, the Mora Embassy will be held.
In the evening, the battle will return to the beach between the Moorish and Christian armies and, with the Christian Embassy, the Christians will reconquer the town. Afterwards, all the revellers will go up to the church of Our Lady of the Assumption to thank the patron saint Santa Marta for her protection and will explode 21 salvos in her honour.
On the 29th, the feast day of Santa Marta, the religious events will be celebrated, the high mass and the procession in which the image of the patron saint will travel through the streets of the historic centre. A spectacular display of fireworks at 00:30 will put the final colophon on the big day. On the 30th, the popular pan competition will take place in which the 22 companies participate, this time on Benidorm Avenue, and on the 31st the protagonists will be the little ones in the children's float parade.
Mayor Marcos Zaragoza appreciates the great dedication of the members of the Santa Marta Association to the organization of the events and wishes revelers, residents and visitors to enjoy this great week of patronal festivities that will start in the municipality on Wednesday.

The Provincial Council of Alicante has allocated 400,000 euros to the third phase of the recovery and enhancement works of the Public Baths of the Roman Municipality of La Vila Joiosa , within the framework of its aid program for the conservation and enhancement of the architectural heritage of the province.
The works of this new action, which began on February 1 and will be completed in six months, focus on the protection by covering the site , where the remains of the hot springs are located, and are included in the second call for proposals of the plan launched by the Architecture Area for municipalities with less than 75,000 inhabitants, endowed with nine million euros. The Provincial Council has financed more than 35% of this third phase , whose total budget amounts to 1,115,000 euros.

There she explained that until next June work will be carried out on the construction of this cover to allow the unearthing of the remains of the architectural structures with full guarantee of conservation.
Once the state of the recovery work already carried out was verified in situ, Sellés expressed his satisfaction with the development of the works and recalled that, following the line of action of the Provincial Council, “the final objective is the consolidation and museumization of the enclave to put it at the service and enjoyment of society, generating a public, energizing and cultural space, which connects two important arteries of the city .
The provincial institution, through the Architecture Area , began technical and economic support for this historical legacy in 2019 with the drafting of the Master Plan, which contemplates a total of six phases for the musealization and urban integration of the Allon hot springs. Subsequently, in 2022, a subsidy of 200,000 euros was granted for the execution of the first two phases of the project , on the one hand, the cleaning and adaptation of the surfaces and, on the other, a prior archaeological action through surveys and tastings.
In this sense, the provincial head of Architecture has stated that " the Provincial Council maintains its municipal promotion and cooperation program for the recovery of architectural heritage and, in this case, both for its historical value and its location, the La Vila hot springs Joiosa are one of the most unique projects in our line of aid ,” explained Sellés.

The new Marina Baixa urban transport concession awarded by the Generalitat Valenciana improves the bus service between Vila Joiosa and the rest of the region's towns.
The new urban transport service in Marina Baixa has already started, which the Generalitat Valenciana has awarded to Avanza Movilidad Levante, the subsidiary in Alicante of the Avanza road passenger transport group. This regional government concession improves the bus service that connects Benidorm with Alfàs del Pi, Altea, Beniardà, Benifat, Benimantel, Bolulla, Callosa d'En Sarrià, Confrides, Finestrat, Castell de Guadalest, La Nucia, Orxeta, Polop, Relleu, Sella, Tàrbena and Vila Joiosa, as well as some connections between these municipalities using 10 lines.
Vila Joiosa thus achieves more connections with the rest of the towns in the region and increases the frequency of the urban transport service between Vila Joiosa and Benidorm.
The new route connects the city centre, from the Parque de la Barbera stop, on Carrer Huit de Maig, to the Benidorm intermodal station, on Carrer de Francisco Llorca Antón, where you can access the tram metropolità d 'Alicante. The bus service goes to the Hospital Comarcal Marina Baixa, La Cala and Carrer d'Esperanto stops in the center of Benidorm, more frequently on both working days and public holidays. The bus service departs from La Barbera Park to Benidorm Intermodal Station from Monday to Saturday every 30 minutes from 7.30am to 1.30am. And transport services on Sundays and public holidays are from 8.30 in the morning until 10.30 in the evening.
This new public transport service offered by the Generalitat Valenciana will serve almost 200,000 people from 18 municipalities in the Marina Baixa.
This measure is part of a shock plan to improve the passenger transport service, which was a vindication of a large part of the mayors of the Marina Baixa region.
Nearly 400 lights have been replaced in the town of Vila Joiosa. These public lighting cuts have been solved thanks to the emergency plan applied by the Urban Scene department of the Vila Joiosa City Council during the month of August.
The councilor of Escena Urbana, Ana Alcázar, explains that "this is an urgent measure that we put in place this summer, since we had detected that there were 400 lampposts that had not been working for more than a year". In this sense, Alcázar explains that it is a shock plan, which has been agreed with the concessionary company that has consisted of the expansion of technical and human resources to rectify the incidents within four weeks.
"Security, along with road cleaning, are two of our biggest challenges as a local government team in this legislature and we have started working on them from the first minute we assumed governance. Lighting promotes public safety and it was essential to provide the population with more lighting, as we announced in the electoral campaign."
After the deadline for action agreed with the concessionaire company, there are pending lighting outages that require the receipt of material or larger-scale actions that will be resolved in the coming days. In addition, the council plans to replace the lights located along the Amadori riverbed.he Youth Council of Vila Joiosa City Council will organise the 3rd Manga and Japanese Culture Fair next September 16.
