This week, the thirty young people participating in the second fortnight of July of the 'Summer 2020' program, have made a guided visit to the origin of the history of Benidorm: the Castell. The Department of Youth, in collaboration with the Municipal Archive that depends on Historical Heritage, has organised this tour through the history of Benidorm.

The Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, together with the Youth Councilors, Jaime Jesús Pérez; Historical Heritage, Ana Pellicer; and Works, José Ramón González de Zárate; they have accompanied the children and adolescents during the journey that has been guided by the technician responsible for the Municipal Archive, Toya Blázquez.

During the tour, Blázquez revealed to young people that thanks to the excavations carried out last year, it was discovered that "in the Castell de Benidorm there were two towers that are at the entrance with a door and a moat", as well as the rest of the dependencies among which he has highlighted "the cistern, the central patio and the two walls, the eastern and the western".

The municipal technique has explained that "In the nineteenth century these buildings were demolished and a kind of recreation area was made." Toya Blázquez has also clarified that the defensive structure "was not isolated" but "was also part of a group that connected with the two towers that we have in Poniente and Levante, the Torre de l'Aguiló and the one in Les Caletes. ”

With this type of activities, from Youth it is intended that “our children and young people know our roots, our culture, our traditions, our history. Where we come from and how we have become the people that we are today, "said Jaime Jesús Pérez, who has also argued that it is an ideal way to publicize the" fantastic excavation work that was carried out last year, " in value "now with the new panels that [the City Council] has installed in El Castell".

The head of Youth believes that this is "the way forward". For this reason, within the 'Summer 2020' activities, 'visits will also be set' to Tossal de la Cala, where young people will be able to get to know the Roman 'castelum' during the month of August. This cultural activity complements the wide program of activities carried out by the participants in the activity: workshops, cultural routes, activities of emotional intelligence, sports, games, hiking, cooking, the environment, languages, board and role-playing games, or cinema forum , among other.
