Valencian Community loses 42,500 travellers across the region from the United Kingdom in 2019 although British visitors holds up in Benidorm.

International tourist arrivals continue unstoppable for another year in the Valencian Community, which finished 2019 with a new record of foreign visitors (more than 9.5 million) and an increase in spending to €9.620 million. This is confirmed by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) in its latest data on the sector, which also includes a new increase of tourism at the state level with 83.7 million travellers, 1.1% more than in 2018.

However, and contrary to what happened in previous years, British visitors, which constitute the main tourist market of the region reduced by 42,486, which is their first decline since the INE began preparing these statistics in 2016. At that time, the volume of British tourists grew at an interannual rate close to 15%

This decrease could be related to the increase in uncertainty in the British tourism sector, said, the Professor of Marketing and Market Research at the University of Valencia, Enrique Bigné . "Holiday tourism is more sensitive to Brexit and prices, and in that sense the strongest destination at the regional level is Benidorm, which has a high dependence on the British market."

The region is seeing an increase in Germany and French visitors.
