Joint collaboration between the National Police and the Benidorm Local Police
A 51-year-old man has been arrested in Benidorm for alleged drug trafficking after being stopped at a routine police checkpoint in a joint operation between the National Police and the Benidorm Local Police.
The arrest took place during an early morning patrol when officers spotted the driver using his mobile phone to make a video call while driving. When ordered to stop, the man ignored instructions and continued until a Local Police patrol managed to intercept his vehicle.
Once stopped, the driver appeared visibly nervous, sweating and speaking with a shaky voice. A security pat-down and a search of the vehicle uncovered a container holding a suspicious substance. A chemical test confirmed it was cocaine, weighing 1,470 grams.
A further inspection was carried out with the help of two drug-detection dogs from the Local Police, which ruled out the presence of additional substances in the vehicle.
The suspect, originally from Madrid and currently residing in Villajoyosa, was also fined for using a mobile phone while driving and for not holding a valid driver’s licence.
He has been charged with drug trafficking and brought before the Court of First Instance in Benidorm.
