More than 700 people have already registered to take part in free sports activities as the ‘Actíva’t Fest’ Healthy Fair filled Elche Park with physical activity, health and wellbeing initiatives aimed at the over-50s.
Organised by the Sports Department of Benidorm City Council, in collaboration with its European Funds Department, the initiative promotes active and healthy ageing among residents and visitors aged over 50.
Councillors Javier Jordá and Aida García Mayor joined participants during the Saturday morning event, which featured masterclasses in Zumba, aerobics and other group activities, alongside information stands, wellbeing exhibitors and programme details under the slogan “Your health, our goal.”
The initiative is funded by the European Union through Next Generation EU funds and forms part of the ‘Verde Benidorm’ Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan within Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
Councillor Jordá explained that the project offers a varied and completely free programme of activities running from January through to the end of April. Activities take place at venues including the Palau d’Esports, Foietes and El Moralet parks, Serra Gelada, Guillermo Amor Sports Complex, community centres and Benidorm’s beaches.
The programme includes group walks, swimming, aquagym, Pilates, adapted running, tai chi, yoga for seniors, beach pétanque, dance fitness, adapted padel, historical hiking routes, kayaking and more.
Open to residents and visitors over 50, activities are subject to capacity, with most sessions limited to 20 participants.
