On January 4, the plenary session of the Altea City Council approved the suspension of the granting of urban compatibility reports for tourist homes. It has done so for a period of one year and with the intention of diagnosing, studying and participating with the public to order and regulate tourist accommodation in Altea. He remembers the edil of Urbanism, Jose Orozco.
In the words of Orozco, "we already have more than 2,200 homes with these characteristics and letting it be done, involves some risks that are quite obvious. It can be seen how tourist flats generate important benefits for the companies in the sector and for the owners, although at the same time, their lack of regulation can cause problems for coexistence. The excessive rise in the price of rent and housing, affecting the younger population that wishes to access it, the concentration of waste, or gentrification in tourist areas such as the old town is a concern."
In response to all these concerns, Altea City Council has selected the company GEOINNOVA to carry out the study, the regulation proposal and the participatory process, since the City Council considers it essential to have the opinion of all people , associations and companies involved, or that are affected by the social, economic and environmental impact in all these matters. Jose Orozco reports.
The participation of the tourism sector, residents, departments with management capacity of the City Council itself, the participation councils and political groups of the Municipal Corporation, as well as other administrations with competences in the matter, will be counted on. He added the mayor, who indicates that "all these actors will be part of the diagnostic workshops for the perception of problems, needs and expectations".
In a first stage, two workshops will be held aimed at the sector, such as Tourist Housing Management Companies (EGVUT), hospitality and commerce, among others. In a second period, three workshops aimed at citizens will take place, highlighting the workshop open to all citizens on May 7. The workshops will be held in the Library Room of the House of Culture in Altea.
In addition to the aforementioned workshop open to the public, the website (Click Here) will reflect the problem and the objectives; because the study of tourist accommodation is necessary; execution phases of the study; participation in the study; phases of the participatory process; Fieldwork and methods of participation; How can you participate?; When and where can you participate?; data from the Virtual Consultation Office; link to download informative documents such as the process guide; the information brochure with the methods of participation, days, times and places; the form to be downloaded and, if applicable, printed by the interested party or another person, which can be delivered by hand to the indicated place and access to the Web Form for direct participation of citizens, always indicating the procedure to be applied with respect to the regulations on data protection.
Altea Bay has been recognised as a Blue Trail; a distinction awarded annually by the Environmental and Consumer Education Association, Adeac, to paths and itineraries that have been transformed into valuable resources for interpretation and environmental education, close to beaches with blue flags or in territories of the interior The award ceremony took place at Las Rozas, Madrid, and it is the second year in a row that Altea has received this distinction. A recognition that has been collected by the mayor of Environment, Jose Orozco.
"This is an important recognition that only has a hundred trails in Spain and is another example of the importance of valuing our trails and their care with the incorporation of signage and explanatory and interpretive panels that make it a important didactic resource and tourist attraction", commented Orozco.
The distinguished path hugs the bay of Altea, from Plaça d'Europa, located in the town centre, to the Mascarat viewpoint; a coastal itinerary of high natural, cultural and landscape interest that allows you to visit several elements of protected cultural and ethnological interest, in addition to passing through a wetland listed as the mouth of the Algar River and the natural monument of the volcanic outcrop of the fossil beach of Cala del Soio, next to the marine environment of the Serra Gelada Natural Park.
"The trail is very accessible, which is why it will give more visibility to the important natural spaces through which it passes and is another action for the promotion of our natural heritage, contributing to the deseasonalisation of tourism and also to improving the condition of the people who walk for the same"; concluded the municipal manager of Environment and Urban Planning, Jose Orozco.
The gastronomic days "El Plat de Cullera", which will be held in Altea from February 16 to 25, were presented to the media. In this new edition, there was a record participation of 17 establishments that wanted to join the conference. La Paraeta, Melitón Jardín, Ca Pere, Casa Vital, E-Tika, Italia Loca, Xe que Bò, Chez Pierre, Juan Abril, Mallol, Gourmet Losada, la Clau d'Altea, Gallinero, Maná, Rumors, la Picateta de Lola and the Sidrería Escondida, will offer for a few days their best dishes with traditional menus, suitable for the time of year, and with the spoon as a common element among all and some with touches of innovation.
During the presentation, the councilor for HR and Citizen Security, Deo Sánchez, apologised to the councilor for Commerce, Jose María Borja, who due to personal issues could not attend the presentation, and wanted to congratulate all the participating establishments, highlighting the work carried out by the Association of Innkeepers and Merchants of Altea. According to Deo Sánchez, "it's an initiative that wants to highlight the work of collaborating restaurants, but that benefits local commerce since they all use local products and that has the support of the Altea City Council a another year".
For his part, the president of AEA, the Association of Innkeepers and Merchants of Altea, Juan Abril, said that this will be the first event of the year to which six others will accompany in the coming months, thus highlighting the concerns that all its associates have. With regard to these days, "we want to show the concern that we have among all restaurateurs so that we don't lose spoon meals, that tradition that is so ours. There are very elaborate menus that will make us remember those flavours of old", highlighted Abril, who encouraged to enjoy the "Plat de Cullera" by being able to make reservations now to avoid last minute problems.
The "El Plat de Cullera" conferences want to reward the loyalty of their diners, as in previous editions, for this reason each place participating in the conferences will be assigned a QR code, in which each customer can register their participation. In this way, he will enter the draw for various gifts that have been contributed by different collaborating companies. Some of these gifts are a Gentilesa soup from Melitón restaurant, a Gentilesa soup from Ristorantino Gallinero, a Gentilesa soup from the De Confiança bar, Gentilesa coffee packs from Café Arditi Italia Roma, a batch of Premium Gentilesa products from El Picaro butcher shop and a batch of Boama chocolate courtesy of Chocolates Marcos Tonda. The more menus enjoyed, the more options and possibilities there will be in the draw that takes place at the end of the days.
To finish, Mario Ayús, from the company Gastro Eventos and organizer of the conference, emphasised that it is very easy to work in the locality, since "our mission is to put a little more in the window a gastronomy itself very well known, as is Alteana. That's why we try, based on our previous experience, and with the restaurateurs' concerns, to adapt to the events they ask of us". For Gastro Eventos, "the launch of seven gastronomic events in 2024 is good proof that things are going well, and that more and more establishments want to join any of the projects".

From December 18 to 22 you can deposit the gift under the Solidarity Tree.
Altea City Council has joined the Christmas solidarity campaign promoted by the association Corazón Exprés so that no child is left without a Christmas present. This was made known by the mayor of Participació Ciutadana, Joaquim Devesa, who explained that there will be several municipal buildings that will house the Solidarity Tree under which to deposit the gifts
As indicated by the mayor, "today the Solidarity Tree of Corazón Exprés, with which the City Council collaborates, has been installed in the hall of the Altea Town Hall". "This campaign has been created to help the families who need it the most and who have this Christmas illusion that is so typical of our country, such as giving gifts to children on Kings Day"; added Devesa.
"The aim is to collect gifts for children from families in need and along these lines, Corazón Exprés has installed several trees in the municipality and we wish them a fruitful campaign that can be of help to families more needs". Joaquim Devesa concluded.
On behalf of Corazón Exprés, a regional association based in Altea, Magdalena López invites the population of Altea to participate in this great Christmas initiative and thanks the people of Altea because "Altea is one of the most supportive towns we have" .
"We put up the Christmas tree so that no boy or girl, between the ages of 1 and 12, is left without their new gift", points out the president of Corazón Exprés, who detailed that "you have to come to the tree, pick up a card on which you put the age of the boy or girl to whom you will send your gift and then, once the gift has been purchased, it is returned under one of the solidarity trees. No need to take the card and return the gift to the same tree. Then we go on to collect the gifts that are intended for our association, but also for others who cannot collect enough gifts for the minors whose families they collaborate with".
Last year, more than 400 gifts were collected in the Marina Baixa Region and it is expected to reach or exceed this figure. There are approximately 50 volunteers that Corazón Exprés has in the Region and who, with their various tasks, try to ensure that no family or person has the necessary resources in emergency situations, but also on special dates such as this Solidarity Tree in which, as its president declares, "it must be borne in mind that with participation a boy or girl will be happy, which is the most important thing".
In Altea the trees installed will be at the Town Hall, Casa de Cultura, CEAM, G&H Dentists, Club Esportiu Gimeno Team, Óptica Passarela, Social Center, Luna de Eufèmia, Academia Limay, El Planet school, Gestoria Sapp, Mayra Salon MM Nails and Casaltea Immobiliària. The director of the Consortium of Museums of the Valencian Community, José Luis Pérez Pont, has presented in Altea the exhibition 'Scenographies of reality' which collects works by 11 Valencian artists of various generations, with different ethnic and stylistic approaches, acquired by the First Vice Presidency and Ministry of Culture and Sport for the 'Contemporary Art of the Generalitat Valenciana' collection.
Pérez Pont was accompanied by the mayor of Altea, Diego Zaragozí Llorens, and the councilor for Culture, Pepa V. Pérez Llorens, and he emphasized in his speech that this exhibition "explores, through a collective look educational and full of nuances, the concepts of space, home and memory as determining elements in the configuration of identity".
Likewise, he pointed out that "the 'Contemporary Art of the Generalitat Valenciana' collection allows us to take a tour throughout the Valencian Community and show the perspective of many of our artists, combining styles and generations" .
"We believe that this growing set of works contributes to enriching our identity as individuals but also as a society, precisely two concepts on which this exhibition pivots", said Pérez Pont.
For her part, the Councilor for Culture of Altea City Council, Pepa V. Pérez Llorens, has highlighted that 'Scenographies of reality' brings together innovative proposals from exceptional artists who, through techniques such as sculpture, painting and video, have engaged in an exciting exercise of exploration. Its ultimate intention is to expand the limits of creativity and generate new ways of understanding the world and the way in which we relate to it".

For their part, Carmen Ortiz, Joan Sebastián, Oliver Johnson, Pepa López Poquet and Rebeca Plana have their place of birth or residence in the province of Valencia, while Laura Palau and Pascual Arnal are from Castellón.
Contemporary Art of the Generalitat Valenciana
The collection to which the works that are part of this exhibition belong began to take shape in 2017, the year since which the Generalitat has acquired more than a hundred works of art without generational guidelines or restrictions thematic, which address issues of our closest society.
Through this initiative, support has been given to the careers of numerous artists born or resident in the Valencian Community, with a balance between men and women, who were included in the process of generating a memory of our time. In this way, through the Consortium of Museums of the Valencian Community, a continuous exhibition activity has been developed throughout the Community.
'Contemporary Art of the Generalitat Valenciana' arises from the need to promote and revitalize the Valencian artistic sector, and to recognize the artists and outstanding pieces that offer a panorama of current contemporary art and represent a valuable long-term heritage legacy .
The Ministry of Environment, Water, Infrastructure and Territory will double the track of the Alicante TRAM between the stop of El Albir, in the municipality of Alfaz del Pi and the station of Altea, in the town of Altea, in addition to the construction of a technical crossing in El Albir, in order to improve the circulation of trains.
For this, it has tendered, through Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV), the execution of the works with an initial budget of 14,698,165.43 euros, VAT included, in works that will be developed over 24 months in two phases : the first will be the crossing point, with an investment of 9,656,188.24 euros and 24 months of time, and the second the duplicity of the road, which will involve a disbursement of 5,041,977.19 euros, both with tax of the Added Value included, and an overlapping term at the first of 16 months.
The doubling of the track will take place over a length of 3.33 kilometers, which includes the 332 meters of the Cap Blanc viaduct. The whole project is financed by the European Union.
The Minister of Environment, Water, Infrastructure and Territory, Salomé Pradas, has assured that this action is "essential to improve the travel times between Benidorm and Denia", and that it aims to "improve the frequencies and the service provided to the users in the Alicante network, especially the residents and visitors of the Marina Baixa, who will see a remarkable improvement in rail transport in their region and who will be able to enjoy an environmentally friendly alternative to mobility , which makes it possible to reduce emissions in an integrated way in an environment of great landscape value".
In the opinion of the head of Infrastructure, "this action, together with others that are being carried out or will be undertaken soon, meant a significant improvement in the frequencies and in the service provided by TRAM in Alicante, making clear the commitment of the Generalitat for the regions of the two Marinas, both the Upper and the Lower".
The doubling of the track in the Albir-Altea section brings with it the advantages of increasing the reliability of the services provided by Alicante TRAM due to the existence of a double track, which allows the maintenance of traffic in the event of a track cut due to an incident or maintenance work, as well as the increase in the reliability of said services by allowing the crossing of trains in the middle of the track, an issue that reduces the possibility of transmission of train delays to the units in the opposite direction to those crosses during its journey. González, municipal head of Tourism.
