Vila Joiosa athletes Yassine Taloui and Bahaa Taloui have led the race wearing the number 0 as recognition from the Town Council of Vila Joiosa for their sports record and title of world champions in taekwon-do and kickboxing in 2023.
Around 1000 people have participated in the fifth edition of Sant Silvestre. Athletes of all ages, dressed in Christmas costumes, have traveled the streets of the center of Vila Joiosa in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. This popular race is part of this year's special La Nadala program organised by Vila Joiosa Town Hall until January 7th, which is why both the start and the finish line have been located in La Barbera Park .
Before starting the exit, the Mayor Marcos Zaragoza and the Councilor for Sports, Peyo Lloret, placed the bib with the number 0 on the brothers Yassine Taloui and Bahaa Taloui, both members of the Gym Tae La club Vila, and this year they have been proclaimed world champions in taekwon-do and kickboxing, respectively, so the City Council wanted to recognize their outstanding sporting record at international level with this gesture.
Behind them, a tide of runners, decked out in Christmas motifs, under confetti and artificial snow, have started the route through the circuit including Barranquet, Colom, Pizarro, Joan Carles I, Germans Aragonès and Huit de Maig streets.
Upon reaching the finish line, hot chocolate was distributed to all participants. On the podium, the Mayor Marcos Zaragoza and the Councilor for Sports, Peyo Lloret, presented prizes to the most veteran runner, María Isabel Arillo Llinares, 83 years old, for the best individual costume, awarded to the pair of runners dressed in leg of ham, and the best group costume, given to the members of the Vila Joiosa triathlon club, whose clothing was inspired by Chinese culture. In addition, two hams have been drawn among all the participants registered in the race.
