Benidorm / 26 March 2026
The city of Benidorm has approved plans to modernise its municipal tourist office at El Torrejó, in a move aimed at enhancing visitor experience and strengthening its reputation as a leading European holiday destination.
The refurbishment project, backed by European Union Next Generation funding, carries a budget of just under €120,000 and is expected to be completed within two months once construction begins. The scheme forms part of the city’s broader ‘Green Benidorm’ tourism sustainability strategy.
Led by Mayor Toni Pérez, the initiative is designed to transform the existing facility into a modern, accessible, and digitally enhanced visitor hub, reflecting changing tourist expectations.
Modernisation and Sustainability Focus
The redevelopment will include:
City officials say the goal is to create a tourist office that prioritises sustainability, innovation, and usability, while maintaining high standards of service for international visitors.
Mayor Pérez highlighted the importance of tourist offices as a first point of contact for visitors, noting that Benidorm has previously been recognised for innovation in digital visitor services.
Part of a Wider Tourism Strategy
The project sits within a larger push to modernise Benidorm’s tourism infrastructure and align with EU sustainability goals. With increasing competition between Mediterranean destinations, the city is investing in technology-driven services and greener facilities to maintain its appeal.
The tender process is now open, with bids invited until early April, and construction expected to begin shortly thereafter.
Implications for UK Visitors
For British tourists — who make up a significant share of visitors to Benidorm — the upgraded facility is expected to provide improved information services, better accessibility, and a more seamless digital experience, particularly for those seeking local attractions, transport guidance, and sustainability-focused travel options.
