Operation Bangladesh, carried out yesterday, has resulted in seven people being charged with crimes against industrial and intellectual property.
Benidorm Local Police have confiscated more than 3,000 counterfeit items following coordinated raids on nine shops in the Rincón de Loix district.
The action, codenamed Operation Bangladesh, was carried out yesterday by 12 police officers supported by municipal inspectors from the City Council’s Commerce and Consumer Affairs departments.
During the operation, seven individuals were charged with offences relating to industrial and intellectual property rights.
Councillor for Citizen Security, Jesús Carrobles, said:
“This operation is the result of sustained inspections by the Local Police to clamp down on the sale of counterfeit goods – an area where our efforts have been significantly stepped up.”
Yesterday’s seizures follow earlier inspections over recent months at five other shops, where officers recovered more than 2,000 fake sportswear items. On those occasions, three people were charged, and reports were filed for labour violations and trading without a business licence.
