Public Space covers more than 1,400 meters of balustrade, viewpoints and access to Poniente beach
Benidorm City Council, through its Department of Public Space, has initiated an intervention to improve the public aesthetics of some of the city's most representative and iconic landmarks. With the arrival of Holy Week in mind, the department headed by Francis Muñoz has begun work to improve the appearance of highly visited spots and locations during this time of year.
Thus, the intervention is primarily based on removing the previous layers of paint, applying a primer, and finally applying the final coat of paint. With this in mind, work is being carried out on Plaza del Castell, Plaza de San Jaime, and the western balustrade as far as Paseo de Tamarindos. According to the Councilor for Public Space, "the painting and improvement of the balustrade's appearance covers approximately 1,400 linear meters."
In addition to these locations, work will also be done in highly visited areas such as Elche Park, Paseo de Colón, and the access points to the beach from Paseo de Poniente, "both on the thirteen staircases and the three existing ramps." Francis Muños visited some of the areas where work is being done this morning and specified that "before Holy Thursday, the work being carried out in the most visited areas, such as Plaza del Castell and Paseo de Tamarindos, will be completed." As for the rest of the project, "we will finish around mid-May because it will have less impact on residents and visitors."
The City Council's investment in these projects amounts to 39,900 euros, which includes the painting work and the materials used. The council member added, "Preliminary repairs are being carried out on some parts of the western balustrade due to small detachments caused by rust on the internal reinforcement." Once these repairs are completed, the painting work will begin.
