The seafront promenades, Tossal, La Cruz, El Castell, and the Town Hall facade have joined this global initiative to raise awareness about the planet's environmental degradation.
Benidorm City Council joined the "Earth Hour" initiativ on Saturday evening, for another year. This initiative, promoted globally by WWF, aims to turn off the lights in the world's most iconic locations for 60 minutes as a symbol of the fight against climate change and biodiversity loss. Launched 18 years ago in Sydney, "Earth Hour" was held this Saturday, March 22, between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.
During these 60 minutes, Benidorm City Council has turned off the lights at some of the city's most iconic and emblematic sites, including El Tossal, El Castell, the façade of the City Hall, the Serra Gelada Cross monument, the ornamental lighting on the wall of Paseo de Poniente, and the light garland on Paseo de Levante. The aim is to draw the attention of residents and tourists to the environmental degradation the planet is suffering and give it an hour of respite.
