Once again this year, the Benidorm Town Hall's Assembly Hall has been the setting for the awards ceremony of the thirty-first edition of the Christmas Fireworks Competition organised by the Department of Commerce together with the business associations Hosbec, Aico and Abreca.
The Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, chaired the event together with the councillor for the area, Javier Jordá, and the representatives of the entrepreneurial groups: Jorge Ferrándiz, for Hosbec; Raúl Parra, for Aico; and Álex Frattini, for Abreca. Among the attendees were also other members of the Corporation and the manager of the Visit Benidorm Foundation, Leire Bilbao.
During the event, hosted by Esperanza Rostoll, a 15-minute video was shown in which the work carried out by the participating establishments was highlighted, which this year were 71, compared to 14 in 2023. An increase that is reflected in the numerous shop windows decorated for the occasion by shops, hotels and the accommodation sector.
In his welcome speech, Javier Jordá thanked the 71 participating companies for their involvement, which managed to “put the spotlight” on a particularly “colourful” Christmas in Benidorm and stressed “the difficulty for the jury” in determining which companies would win the awards.
Jordá recalled that the atmosphere of the participating establishments must be added to that of the citizens and businesses that are participating in the #BenidormTeDamás campaign, which this year has reached the number of 670 collaborating establishments.
After the speech by the Councillor for Commerce, the awards were presented, which on this occasion went to Climia Belroy, third prize, in the Hotel Establishments category; Servigroup Calypso, second prize; and Servigroup Diplomatic, first prize.
In the Restaurant category, third place went to Gelateria Pinoccio; second place to Aroma Café; and first place to La Cava Aragonesa. Finally, in the Commerce category, the third award went to El Jardín by Di Marco; the second to La Orquidea; and the first to Llibreria Contalles.
The best city to live in
The Mayor of Benidorm closed the event, firstly thanking the associations and the Municipal Delegation of Commerce for the “magnificent work carried out” in the organisation of the competition which has served to highlight “our value chain which is the industry of happiness”.
Toni Pérez shared with the audience his “feeling that today is Christmas Eve” because the city is “in absolute turmoil” largely “due to the illusion of the 'bonoconsumo'” #BenidormTeDaMás with the collaboration of hundreds of local businesses.
The Mayor recalled the initiatives #BenidormTeEspera and #LuceBenidorm which were launched “in recent difficult times” to boost the local economy and that today Benidorm is the city with the “lowest unemployment rate of the cities with 50,000 inhabitants in the province and possibly in the Valencian Community” and that “has a lot to do with our commerce and our accommodation sector”.
“Benidorm – Toni Pérez pointed out – is a city of opportunities and I have before me a good part of those who make this possible, our business community.” The mayor encouraged businesses to show off “with their shop windows and with the best smile.” To “continue along the path” of making Benidorm “the best city to live in.”
