Benidorm City Council has intensified surveillance to tackle illegal dumping of rubble and inert waste across the municipality, particularly in areas where violations are most frequent, the council said on Monday.
The initiative, led by the Department of Street Cleaning in coordination with Benidorm’s Local Police, has already led to several offenders being identified and fined after being caught in the act.
The campaign focuses on locations that have seen repeated incidents of uncontrolled dumping,
including plots near the nightclub area by Avenida Comunidad Valenciana and areas bordering the neighbouring municipalities of Alfaz del Pi and Finestrat.
Street Cleaning Councillor Luis Navarro said the city had instructed the Local Police to increase patrols and would continue installing surveillance cameras at specific sites as part of a broader effort to prevent illegal dumping.
“These actions form part of an ongoing public awareness campaign on the proper disposal of construction debris,” Navarro said, adding that the city has also been removing illegally dumped materials in recent days.
The council is encouraging residents, individuals and small businesses carrying out minor construction work to use the municipal recycling centre, provided waste is properly sorted and separated. Navarro stressed that construction companies are legally required to use authorised waste management firms and are prohibited from depositing waste in public spaces.
Benidorm City Council also highlighted the availability of the municipal ecopark for rubble and bulky waste, as well as a free bulky waste collection service for residents, which can be arranged by phone.
