Benidorm City Council will use local artists to improve the image of some municipal public spaces through illustration, painting or decoration. In fact, this initiative has already been carried out before and now it has been decided to resume it in certain places by going to the census of local artists that the council has.
In the new playground that has been launched on Marina Alta Avenue, you can already see the work being carried out by the artist Cristian Cortés Martín, who is in charge of creating artistic graffiti along the wall. perimeter that surrounds the entire campus and borders a school center.
The 'At street level' campaign was in the park this morning to check the progress of this work which, according to the artist himself, will be completed in approximately a little over a month. The Councilor for Citizen Participation, Ana Pellicer, has been accompanied by the councilors of Parks and Gardens and Public Space, José Ramón González de Zárate and Francis Muñoz, as well as the vice president of the Neighbourhood Council, Antonio Zamora, the counselor Teresa Garrido, and Some neighbours.
The artist Cristian Cortés has also been on the visit and has detailed some aspects of the work he is doing, whose theme varies depending on the space that is closest. “I give importance to colour, repeating a series of colours to unify the entire wall. "I try to recreate a child's world, between the figurative and the abstract and leaving a free space for the imagination."
The technique used is aerosol and along the wall "some elements are repeated." However, in the area closest to the dog park, illustrations based on the animal world predominate, in the school part more importance is given to children and games, and in the park area there are many images of nature and children, with aspects inclusive too.
Cortés was the winner in 2015 of the first graffiti contest held in Benidorm and his work was captured in the transformation centre located next to the Domingo Devesa Tourist Development Centre.
Ana Pellicer has positively valued this initiative and has pointed out that “there are surely more surfaces in our urban scene for local urban artists to fill with color and interesting and attractive images for the users of those areas.”
