Benidorm / 5 February 2026
Benidorm’s beaches have successfully passed all required audits during 2025, renewing every major quality and environmental certification and reaffirming the destination’s position as a benchmark for sustainable coastal management.
The city will once again fly distinctions including the “S” for Sustainability and the “Q” for Quality awarded by the Spanish Institute for Tourism Quality (ICTE), alongside EMAS registration and ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications. The results were confirmed at a meeting of the Beach Management Board chaired by Mayor Toni Pérez and Councillor for Beaches and the Environment Mónica Gómez.
“These are extremely demanding standards that evaluate everything from environmental management and service quality to accessibility and resource efficiency,” said Gómez. “They analyse every aspect of our beaches and once again confirm their excellence.”

Gómez praised the work of municipal staff and the concessionary company, highlighting their rapid response to any incidents and continuous improvements made following audit recommendations. Recent actions include the renovation of access ramps to beach facilities to further improve accessibility.
The meeting also reviewed progress on the Beach Sustainability Plan, a two-year programme launched to strengthen the environmental and social sustainability of Benidorm’s coastline in line with several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By the end of 2025, a significant number of commitments had already been delivered, including:
Looking ahead to 2026, the Beach Management Board has set out around 20 further actions to complete the plan’s implementation.
The board also reviewed the 2025 Activity Report, which details initiatives such as Benidorm’s adherence to the Green Cities Pact, participation in Earth Hour, the Circular Vision programme, educational talks on Posidonia seagrass, tree-planting projects, school garden competitions, and the expansion of urban gardens in the Camí de la Parva area.
